In 2016, a multijurisdictional team investigated an outbreak of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) serogroup O121 and O26 infections linked to contaminated flour from large domestic producer.A case was defined as infection with strain in which illness onset between December 21, 2015, September 5, 2016. To identify exposures associated the outbreak, cases were compared non-STEC enteric cases, matched according age group, sex, state residence. Products suspected be related collected...
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is dominated by variant viruses; the resulting impact on severity remains unclear. Using a retrospective cohort study, we assessed hospitalization risk following infection with 7 severe acute respiratory syndrome 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variants. Our study includes individuals positive SARS-CoV-2 reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) in Washington Disease Reporting System available viral genome data, from 1 December 2020 to 14 January...
Abstract Background The COVID-19 pandemic is dominated by variant viruses; the resulting impact on disease severity remains unclear. Using a retrospective cohort study, we assessed hospitalization risk following infection with seven SARS-CoV-2 variants. Methods Our study includes individuals positive RT-PCR in Washington Disease Reporting System available viral genome data, from December 1, 2020 to January 14, 2022. analysis was restricted cases specimens collected through sentinel...
MglA, a 22-kDa protein related to monomeric GTPases, is required for the normal operation of A (Adventurous) and S (Social) motility multicellular development Myxococcus xanthus. To determine how MglA controls A- S-motility, was assayed biochemically its cellular location determined. His-tagged hydrolyzed GTP slowly in vitro at rate nearly identical that Ras showing has GTPase activity. Immunofluorescence microscopy fixed cells from liquid showed associated with helical track similar MreB...
Pathogen genomic surveillance in healthcare has the potential to enhance patient safety by detecting outbreaks earlier, thereby reducing morbidity and mortality. Despite benefits, there are barriers adoption, including cost, expertise, lack of standardized methodologies incentives. This commentary advocates for 1) investment from payors, public health, regulatory bodies 2) additional research on improving outcomes infections. Effective implementation will require strategic cross-sector collaboration.
In early 2018, we investigated a large national multiple-serotype
The Washington State Department of Health Public Laboratories (WAPHL) has tested 11,501 samples between 2007 and 2017 for a foodborne disease using combination identification, serotyping, subtyping tools. During this period there were 8037 total clinical environmental by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE), including 512 clusters 2176 PFGE patterns Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica. There 2446 Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli PFGE, which included 158 1174 patterns. 332 Listeria...
The first three SARS-CoV-2 phylogenetic lineages classified as variants of concern (VOCs) in the United States (U.S.) from December 15, 2020 to February 28, 2021, Alpha (B.1.1.7), Beta (B.1.351), and Gamma (P.1) lineages, were initially detected internationally. This investigation examined available travel history coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases reported U.S. whom laboratory testing showed one these initial VOCs. Travel history, demographics, health outcomes for a convenience...
