Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN 1) is an autosomal-dominant syndrome associated with of pituitary, pancreas, parathyroid, and foregut lineage neuroendocrine tissue. Although enteropancreatic carcinoid has been well described in patients MEN 1, it was believed that bronchopulmonary relatively uncommon, occurring approximately 5% patients. It unclear whether the increased screening asymptomatic will facilitate early diagnosis this tumor improve patient prognosis. The authors reviewed...
Four cases of fatal diving accidents in Tasmania are presented, highlighting the role CT investigation fatalities. The technique allows rapid diagnosis when arterial gas embolism (AGE) is suspected. traditional method investigation, underwater autopsy, a difficult procedure that requires specialized training which subtle AGE may be completely missed. Facilities for performing autopsies normally available only tertiary referral centres, and therefore missed due to lack facilities. use divers...
Marijuana or "bong" lung has been recently described. Subjects typically develop large peripheral paraseptal bullae and are predisposed to spontaneous pneumothoraces. The underlying mechanism for formation is uncertain, but probably relates direct toxicity repeated barotrauma as the smoker performs frequent valsalva manoeuvres in an attempt derive a greater drug effect. We describe case of probable "bong lung" occurring 23-year-old Caucasian man with cystic fibrosis who had history recurrent...
This article reviews breast disorders which can present as palpable masses during pregnancy or lactation. It focuses on the most common differential diagnoses: galactocele, fibroadenoma, lactating adenoma, mastitis and abscess, pregnancy-associated cancer. doi: http://dx.doi.org/10.4021/jcgo140w
Ewing sarcoma is a highly aggressive small round cell malignant neoplasm of bone and soft tissue that typically manifested in children young adults. It most commonly primary tumor; however, extraosseous cases have been increasingly reported. We report case metastatic with the lesion occurring within limb affected by lymphedema. Lymphedema, this case, played role not only genesis tumor because relative local immunosuppression but also masking development lower mass.
Abstract Background This study aimed at risk-stratifying aortic dilatation using wall thickness (AWT) and comparing methods of AWT assessment. Methods Demographic, epidemiological, perioperative data on 72 consecutive surgeries (age = 62 years[standard deviation (SD) 12] years) performed by a single surgeon were collected from hospital database. Aortic was measured computed tomography scans, as well intraoperatively in four quadrants, the level sinuses, midascending aorta, calipers. stress...
Abstract Introduction Whether acute pancreatitis can occur in pancreatically insufficient individuals with cystic fibrosis remains a matter of debate. Case presentation We describe case occurring 52-year-old Caucasian Australian man moderately severe lung disease and pancreatic insufficiency. An inflammatory mass within the head his pancreas was confirmed using computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging biopsy, but serum amylase lipase remained normal throughout phase illness. His...
The association of cerebral dural arteriovenous fistula (DAVF) and ipsilateral flow related aneurysm has infrequently been reported. We describe a male patient who presented with an acute haemorrhagic stroke was found to have large right fronto-parietal intra-parenchymal haemorrhage from the ruptured Borden type II DAVF in addition venous intraosseous contralateral middle meningeal artery (MMA) all clearly delineated by CT DSA. He underwent emergency stereotactic evacuation intraparenchymal...
• Retroperitoneal pelvic desmoid tumours are rare with limited publications. A case of a retroperitoneal tumour is discussed. Excision was challenging requiring the sacrifice some iliac vessels. No other reports document surgical excision this. To date our patient suffers minimal morbidity and has had no recurrences.
Microcatheter directed blood reperfusion is an endovascular salvage option for acute cerebral artery occlusions. It has not been investigated whether this technique may be associated with hemolysis.Analysis of hemolysis during infusion through different microcatheters and rates to assess related risks.Four inner diameters were perfused samples at three rates. Hemolytic markers including lactate-dehydrogenase (LDH) haptoglobin analyzed. Samples before after compared using Student's t-test....
