Background: Hyperthermic intrathoracic chemotherapy (HITOC) is an additive treatment option after surgical cytoreduction of pleural malignancies. Despite growing clinical experience and studies evaluating its feasibility, postoperative morbidity mortality, as well the effect on survival, there still only little known about local effects HITOC lung parenchyma tumour cells. The objective this in vitro study was to evaluate dose-dependent concentration penetration depth cisplatin human tissue....
Abstract Background and Objectives Hyperthermic intrathoracic chemotherapy (HITOC) is used for the treatment of malignant pleural tumors. Although HITOC proved to be safe, postoperative renal failure due nephrotoxicity intrapleural cisplatin remains a concern. Methods This single‐center study was performed retrospectively in patients who underwent tumor resection between September 2008 December 2018. Results A total 84 (female n = 33; 39.3%) with tumors surgical cytoreduction subsequent (60...
Cytoreductive surgery (CRS) combined with hyperthermic intrathoracic chemoperfusion (HITOC) is a promising treatment strategy for pleural mesothelioma (PM). The aim of this study was to evaluate the impacts multimodal approach in combination systemic on disease-free survival (DFS) and overall (OS). In retrospective multicenter study, clinical data from patients after CRS HITOC PM at four high-volume thoracic departments Germany were analyzed. A total 260 MPM (220 epithelioid, 40...
The intraoperative detection of solitary pulmonary nodules (SPNs) continues to be a major challenge, especially in minimally invasive video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS). location, size, and frozen section result SPNs are decisive regarding the extent lung resection. This feasibility study investigates technical applicability contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (Io-CEUS) surgery. In this prospective, monocentric clinical study, n = 30 patients who underwent Io-CEUS during elective resection...
In the context of quality assurance, objectives were to describe surgical treatment and postoperative morbidity (particularly renal insufficiency). A retrospective, multicentre study patients who underwent cytoreductive surgery (CRS) with cisplatin-based HITOC was performed. The funded by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation (GZ: RI 2905/3-1)). Patients (n = 350) malignant pleural mesothelioma 261; 75%) thymic tumours spread 58; 17%) or metastases 31; 9%)...
Abstract Background The objective of this nationwide, registry‐based study was to compare the two most frequently used procedures for palliative treatment a malignant pleural effusion (MPE) and evaluate differentiated indications these procedures. Methods This retrospective observational based on data “PLEURATUMOR” registry German Society Thoracic Surgery. Patients who were documented in period from January 2015 November 2021 had video‐assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) talc pleurodesis or...
Abstract Background Objective of this study was to assess postoperative morbidity and mortality as well recurrence-free overall survival in patients with thymic malignancies pleural dissemination undergoing surgical cytoreduction hyperthermic intrathoracic chemotherapy (HITOC). Methods Retrospective between September 2008 December 2017 follow-up analysis May 2018. Results A total 29 (male: n = 17) spread (primary stage IVa: 11; recurrence: 18) were included. Surgical performed via...
Objective of the 'German hyperthermic intrathoracic chemotherapy (HITOC) study' is to evaluate HITOC as additional treatment after surgical cytoreduction for malignant pleural tumours. Even though applied with increasing frequency, there no standardised therapy protocol concerning technique HITOC, selection well dosage chemotherapeutic agents and perioperative management in order provide a safe comparable, regime. This trial retrospective, multicentre observational study, which funded by...
Cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intrathoracic chemotherapy (HITOC) is effective on survival for patients with pleural metastatic thymic tumours.Multicentre, retrospective analysis of stage IVa tumours treated surgical resection HITOC. Primary end point was overall survival, secondary points were recurrence-/progression-free morbidity/mortality.A total n = 58 (thymoma, 42; carcinoma, 15; atypical carcinoid the thymus, 1) included, who had primary metastases (n 50; 86%) or recurrence 8;...
Surgical resection of pulmonary metastases leads to prolonged survival if strictly indicated. Usually, thoracotomy with manual palpation the entire lung lymph node dissection or sampling is performed. The aim this study was evaluate role video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) in metastectomy curative intent. In study, all patients suspected metastasis (n = 483) who visited Center for Thoracic Surgery Regensburg, between January 2009 and December 2017 were analysed retrospectively.A total...
Preoperative computed tomography (CT) scans for transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) are used routinely. In elderly high-risk patients, incidental radiographic findings frequently reported. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact auxiliary on patients' mid-term survival, which might affect treatment strategy.Between March 2011 and April 2016, all radiological reports contrast-enhanced CT 976 patients scheduled TAVI were analysed retrospectively thoracic including...
40 000 to 60 people develop malignant pleural effusion (MPE) in Germany each year. The most common causes are lung cancer and breast cancer. Patients with carcinomatosis have a median survival time of four months. We investigated the current health services situation regarding treatment indwelling catheters (IPC) versus talc pleurodesis (TP) based on registry data from Federal Statistical Office, Pleural Tumor Registry German Society for Thoracic Surgery, IPC ewimed GmbH company. In addition,...
Background: Hyperthermic perfusion of the pleural cavity with cisplatin after pleurectomy/decortication is an additional therapeutic option to reduce local relapse malignant tumours. Although there are data on clinical effect, only little known about impact human lung tissue by cisplatin. The objective this experimental study evaluate both concentration and penetration depth in normothermic hyperthermic exposure under ex-vivo-in-vitro conditions. Methods: This was approved ethics committee....
A complete resection of thymic tumors is known to be the most important prognostic factor, but it often difficult perform, especially in advanced stages. In this study, 73 patients with UICC stages III and IV who underwent radical were examined retrospectively. The primary endpoint was defined as postoperative status. Secondary endpoints included morbidity, mortality, recurrence/progression-free, overall survival. total, 31.5% assigned stage IIIa, 9.6% IIIb, 47.9% IVa, 11% IVb. a R0 achieved...
Hyperthermic intrathoracic chemotherapy (HITOC) is an additional intraoperative treatment option within the multimodality therapy of pleural malignancies. A perfusion with high-dose cisplatin performed over a period 60 min after surgical cytoreduction to improve local tumour control through eradication residual cells. Although HITOC increasingly used, there only little scientific evidence about necessary safety measures HITOC. Therefore, objective this study was analysis excretion via...
Abstract Purpose Hyperthermic intrathoracic chemotherapy (HITOC) is an additive, intraoperative treatment for selected malignant pleural tumors. To improve local tumor control, the thoracic cavity perfused with a cisplatin-containing solution after surgical cytoreduction. Since cisplatin probably carcinogenic to humans, potential contamination of surfaces and pathways exposure should be systematically investigated enable risk assessments medical staff thus derive specific recommendations...
