By combining portable, handheld near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy with state-of-the-art classification algorithms, we developed a powerful method to test chicken meat authenticity. The research presented shows that it is both possible discriminate fresh from thawed meat, based on NIR spectra, as well correctly classify fillets according the growth conditions of chickens good accuracy. In all cases, random subspace discriminant ensemble (RSDE) significantly outperformed other common methods...
Abstract Handheld Raman spectroscopy is an emerging technique for rapid on‐site detection of drugs abuse. Most devices are developed on‐scene operation with a user interface that only shows whether cocaine has been detected. Extensive validation studies unavailable, and so typically the insight in raw spectral data identification criteria. This work evaluates performance commercial handheld spectrometer based on (i) its 0–100 wt% binary mixtures, (ii) retrospective comparison 3,168 case...
Abstract On‐scene drug detection is an increasingly significant challenge due to the fast‐changing market as well risk of exposure potent substances. Conventional colorimetric cocaine tests involve handling unknown material and are prone false‐positive reactions on common pharmaceuticals used cutting agents. This study demonstrates novel application 740–1070 nm small‐wavelength‐range near‐infrared (NIR) spectroscopy confidently detect in case samples. Multistage machine learning algorithms...
Both the increasing volume and diversity of drugs-of-abuse encountered by investigation services necessitates need for fast on-scene detectors to detect identify a broad range substances. Near-Infrared (NIR) spectroscopy is suitable presumptive drugs testing miniaturized sensors implemented in portable devices. Currently, myriad different NIR spectrometers available that utilize wavelength ranges. This study presents comparison spectra frequently occuring analyzed five A 350 – 2500 nm...
The performance of visible-near infrared hyperspectral imaging (Vis-NIR-HSI) (400-1000 nm) and shortwave (SWIR-HSI) (1116-1670 combined with different classification regression (linear non-linear) multivariate methods were assessed for meat authentication. In Vis-NIR-HSI, total accuracies in the prediction set SVM ANN-BPN (the best models) 96 94 % surpassing SWIR-HSI 88 89 accuracy, respectively. best-obtained coefficient determinations (R2p) 0.99, 0.88, 0.99 root mean square error (RMSEP)...
The detection of fraudulent additions to milk powder is an ongoing research subject for governmental agencies, industry and academia. Current developments steer towards the application so-called fingerprint approaches, describing authentic, reference samples with spectroscopy using one-class classification (OCC) identify "out-of-class", or adulterated samples. Within this article we describe a novel, portable device hyphenating ultraviolet–visible, fluorescence near-infrared in combination...
Current developments in portable photonic devices for fast authentication of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) or EVOO with non-EVOO additions steer towards hyphenation different optic technologies. The multiple spectra so-called "fingerprints" samples are then analyzed multivariate statistics. For authentication, one-class classification (OCC) to identify "out-of-class" combination data-fusion is applicable.Prospecting the application a prototype device ("PhasmaFood") which hyphenates visible,...
Diffuse reflectance near-infrared (NIR) data (908–1676 nm) of chicken breast fillets was recorded in a non-destructive way using portable miniaturised NIR spectrometer. The used to discriminate between fresh and thawed determine the birds' growth conditions. 153 commercial supermarket fillet samples by applying device equipped with standard issue collar on three different ways: (i) directly meat (ii) through top foil package (i.e. an air pocket fillet), (iii) packaging turned bottom up no...
The microalga Haematococcus pluvialis produces the pigment astaxanthin mainly in esterified form with a multitude of fatty acids, which results complex mixture carotenol mono‐ and diesters. For rapid fingerprinting these esters, matrix‐assisted laser desorption ionization time flight mass spectrometry (MALDI‐TOF/TOF‐MS) might be an alternative to traditional chromatographic separation combined MS. Investigation fragmentation diester palmitate standards MALDI‐TOF/TOF‐MS showed that sodium...
Food products enriched with fatty acid-esterified xanthophylls may result in deviating dietary apo-carotenoids. Therefore, free astaxanthin and its mono- dipalmitate esters were subjected to two degradation processes a methanolic model system: light-accelerated autoxidation hypochlorous acid/hypochlorite (HOCl/OCl(-)) bleaching. Reversed phase ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography photodiode array in-line electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (RP-UHPLC-PDA-ESI-MS) was used for...
Handheld visible-near-infrared (Vis-NIR) and near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy can be cost-effective, rapid, non-destructive transportable techniques for identifying meat species may valuable enforcement authorities, retail consumers. In this study, a handheld Vis-NIR (400–1000 nm) NIR (900–1700 spectrometer were applied to discriminate halal from pork (halal certification), as well speciation of intact ground lamb, beef, chicken (160 samples). Several types class modeling multivariate...
Many industries see a shifting focus towards performing on-site analysis using handheld spectroscopic devices. A determining factor for decision-making on the commissioning of these devices is available information potential performance device specific applications. By now, myriad solutions with very different specifications and pricing are market. Although generally new devices, this does not directly quantify or predict how will perform targeted cases. We present novel chemometric method...
The large numbers of 3,4-methylenedioxy-N-methylamphetamine (MDMA) formulations encountered by the police and border security necessitates need for safe, rapid reliable tests to be performed on-site. Near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy is a promising technique on-scene illicit-drug detection because its analysis, non-invasive nature, broad scope detect various substances, small-sized sensors suitable portable operation. NIR spectrum MDMA shows an intriguing, intense peak at ∼2000 nm that was...
