Background Treatment of blunt splenic trauma (BST) continues to evolve with improved imaging for detection vascular injuries. Purpose To report on treatments BST from 11 centers, the frequency and clinical impact injuries, factors influencing treatment. Materials Methods Patients were retrospectively identified as having between January 2011 December 2018, clinical, imaging, outcome data recorded. Patient summarized descriptively, both overall stratified by initial treatment received...

Using a large consortium of undergraduate students in an organized program at the University California, Los Angeles (UCLA), we have undertaken functional genomic screen Drosophila eye. In addition to educational value discovery-based learning, this article presents first comprehensive genomewide analysis essential genes involved eye development. The data reveal surprising result that X chromosome has almost twice frequency development as found on autosomes.

Purpose To evaluate the effect of an institutional clinical triaging algorithm on rate multidetector computed tomography (CT) utilization in blunt abdominopelvic trauma (BAPT) over 8-year period at urban level 1 center. Materials and Methods Adult patients (n = 13 096; mean age, 42 years; age range, 15-95 years) admitted with BAPT from January 1, 2006, to December 31, 2013, were included. Patients divided into two groups: those before (referred as prealgorithm group, June 30, 2010) after...

To compare the negative predictive value (NPV) of multiparametric MRI for Gleason score (GS) ≥ 3+4 cancer and evaluate predictors these tumors in men with suspected disease under active surveillance (AS).This retrospective study included 38 prostate AS scans assigned PI-RADS v2 scores 1 or 2 between May 2016 September 2017. Biopsy results were no cancer, GS = 3+3, 3+4. Pre-MRI PSA, gland volume, PSA density recorded. Chi-square, equality proportions, logistic regressions used to analyze...

Reducing surgical supply costs can help to lower hospital expenditures. We aimed evaluate whether variation in between urologic surgeons performing both robotic or open partial nephrectomies is associated with differential patient outcomes. In this retrospective cohort study, we reviewed 399 consecutive (n=220) and (n=179) performed at an academic center. Surgical were determined the institution-negotiated rate. Through review, identified factors related case complexity, comorbidity,...

Background Multidetector CT (MDCT) enables rapid and accurate diagnosis of head neck (HN) injuries in patients with blunt trauma (BT). However, MDCT is overused, appropriate selection for imaging could improve workflow. Purpose To investigate the effect implementing clinical triaging algorithms on use HN who have sustained BT. Materials Methods In this retrospective study, aged 15 years or older BT admitted between October 28, 2007, December 31, 2013, were included. Patients divided into...
