A total of 20 organophosphate triesters (OPEs), including seven alkyl-OPEs, three chlorinated (Cl)-OPEs, aryl-OPEs, and oligomeric-OPEs were measured in 341 house dust samples collected from 12 countries during the period 2010-2014. OPEs ubiquitous indoor dust, concentrations (∑OPEs; sum OPEs) ranged 49.4 to 249,000 ng/g dry weight (dw). Generally, Cl-OPEs predominant compounds (51% total) samples, with a median concentration 800 ng/g, followed by alkyl-OPEs (31%), aryl-OPEs (17%), (1%),...
Human adipose tissue samples (n = 52) collected in New York City during 2003−2004 were analyzed for the presence of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). Concentrations PBDEs tissues ranged from 17 to 9630 ng/g, lipid wt (median: 77; mean: 399 wt; sum all di- through hexa-BDE congeners). Average PBDE concentrations human 10- 100-times greater than those reported European countries. A concentration wt, found a sample tissue, is one highest date. 47...
Concentrations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were measured in sediment cores collected from 11 inland lakes Michigan for examination spatial and temporal trends accumulation sources. Concentra tions PAHs varied widely among these lakes; the highest concentrations found Cass Lake, located an urbanized watershed. correlated with watershed population density on a scale. PAH have decreased over time since 1980s nine studied, most which are suburban rural areas. The rate decline...
Nine species of marine fish, including teleost fishes, sharks, and stingrays, two mammals (dolphins) collected from Florida coastal waters were analyzed for polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) to evaluate biomagnification factors (BMF) these contaminants in a foodweb. In addition, bottlenose dolphins bull sharks the coast during 1990s 2000s evaluation temporal trends PBDE PCB levels ecosystems. Mean concentrations PBDEs muscle tissues fishes ranged 8.0...
Synthetic phenolic antioxidants (SPAs), including 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxytoluene (BHT), are extensively used in food, cosmetic and plastic industries. Nevertheless, limited information is available on human exposures, other than the dietary sources, to SPAs. In this study, occurrence of 9 SPAs their metabolites/degradation products was determined 339 indoor dust collected from 12 countries. BHT found 99.5% samples homes microenvironments at concentrations that ranged < LOQ 118 μg/g 0.10...
Concentrations of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), and organochlorine pesticides (OCPs; DDTs, HCHs, CHLs, HCB) were measured in human breast milk samples collected across Massachusetts, USA, 2004. Seventeen PBDE congeners found the samples, ranging concentration from 0.06 to 1910 ng g−1 lipid wt. BDE-47 (2,2′,4,4′-tetraBDE), BDE-99 (2,2′,4,4′,5-pentaBDE), BDE-100 (2,2′,4,4′,6-pentaBDE) major detected samples. Overall mean (±SD) concentrations HCB 64.5 ± 75, 18.9 19, 32.4 36, 2.3 2.2...
Perchlorate is a widespread environmental contaminant and potent thyroid hormone disrupting compound. Despite this, very little known with regard to the occurrence of this compound in indoor dust exposure humans perchlorate through ingestion. In study, 366 samples were collected from 12 countries, USA, Colombia, Greece, Romania, Japan, Korea, Pakistan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, India, Vietnam, China, during 2010–2014. Dust extracted by 1% (v/v) methylamine water. Analyte separation was achieved...
For the first time, concentrations of 19 organophosphate esters (OPEs) were measured in airborne fine particulate matter (PM2.5) from subway stations Barcelona (Spain) to investigate their occurrence, contamination profiles and associated health risks. OPEs detected all PM2.5 samples with levels ranging between 1.59 202 ng/m3 (mean value 39.9 ng/m3). Seventeen out tested analytes detected, TDClPP, TClPP TCEP being those presenting highest concentrations. OPE are not driven by same factors...
Bromochloro alkanes (BCAs) have been manufactured for use as flame retardants decades, and preliminary environmental risk screening suggests they are likely to behave similarly polychlorinated (PCAs), subclasses of which restricted Stockholm Convention Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs). BCAs rarely studied in the environment, although some evidence may migrate from treated-consumer materials into indoor dust, resulting human exposure via inadvertent ingestion. In this study, BCA-C14...
The Colombian Caribbean faces environmental challenges due to urbanization, industrialization, and maritime activities, which introduce pollutants such as heavy metals, hydrocarbons, microplastics into aquatic ecosystems. Perna viridis (Asian green mussel), an invasive species that has been established in Cartagena Bay since 2009, exhibits potential bioaccumulation capacity, making it a promising biomonitor. This study assessed the concentrations of mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb),...
Exposure to organophosphate esters (OPEs) remains a significant concern, especially in aquatic systems where these compounds can bioaccumulate organisms. However, limited information exists regarding their potential health risks humans through the food web tropical ecosystems. This study investigated levels, bioaccumulation, and trophic transfer of OPEs sediments marine fish species from Cartagena Barbacoas bays, Colombia. Twenty target were quantified fish. The average concentrations...
