Statistical distributions of channel base currents and close magnetic fields have been investigated by using data measured during Shandong Artificially Triggering Lightning Experiment (SHATLE) from 2005 to 2009. Effects different factors on examined numerical method. results showed that return stroke peak varied 5.8 kA 45.7 with a geometric mean (GM) 14.1 kA. The GM 10–90% risetime, 30–90% half‐peak width in current waveforms were consistent most the found literature. at 60 m, based 32...

Characteristics of induced voltage in a horizontal conductor due to natural lightning with 9 dart leader/return stroke sequence were analyzed. Effect various parameters on the was examined by numerical simulation. The varied from minimum 4.6 kV maximum 18.6 geometric mean 11.2 kV. half-peak width and down time 0.87 2.9 μs, respectively. simulated results showed that both ends would increase increasing return velocity also height conductor. matched grounding impedances but relationship...

The Schottky behaviour of Ni/Au contact on n-GaN was investigated under various annealing conditions by current–voltage (I–V) measurements. A non-linear fitting method used to extract the parameters from I–V characteristic curves. Experimental results indicate that high quality with a barrier height and ideality factor 0.86±0.02 eV 1.19±0.02 eV, respectively, can be obtained 5 min at 600°C in N2 ambience.

Artificially triggered lightning experiments were carried out at Binzhou, Shandong Province, China during summer form 2005 to 2008. The discharge current the channel base of measured. geometric mean value peak for 21 negative return strokes was 14.6kA, 10%—90% risetime 2.3μs, half width 17 μs and charge transfer within 1ms 1.2C. There essentially no correlation between stroke 10%—90% or waveform its value. No dependence on grounding resistance found either. is after initiation, stepness...

Research shows that complex terrain can affect the spatial distribution of solar radiation and atmospheric physical processes. Based on high-resolution topographic data, there are already several parameterization schemes available to couple effects with models. However, reduce amount calculation, some methods lead errors used in sub-grid for clear-sky direct (SPS-CSDSR). In addition, common finite difference slope algorithms assumption consistent transparency also result errors. This renders...

Abstract This paper reports observation of five sprites captured over a mesoscale convective system in 15‐min window. One them (11:49 hr sprite) was preceded by negative cloud‐to‐ground with peak current −40.9 kA that detected both the local lightning detection network (sprite time delay <70–90 ms) and extremely low frequency (ELF) magnetic field data. Another sprite (11:46 stroke <10 −106.6 but ELF signal could not be recognized. In addition, no positive strokes were recorded 1.5 min...

Transient luminous event (TLEs) observations have been conducted in mainland China since 2007, with a number of TLEs documented. This study analyzed very unusual and unique positive sprite event, that may be produced jointly by two distinct cloud-to-ground lightning flashes (+CGs) occurring within short time difference but different locations separated about 27 km.This observation is from previous studies reporting most the sprites were triggered single +CG flash its possible following...
