Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease characterized by inflammation of various organs such as skin, kidneys, bones, and brain the presence autoantibodies. Although cause SLE not completely understood, environmental factors, genetic susceptibility, hormone factors are thought to play essential roles in pathogenesis SLE. Among microbiota linked development different diseases. The nasal cavity gut involved development, but influence skin still unclear. Here, we...

Here, a novel porous microneedle (PMN) device with bilaterally aligned electroosmotic flow (EOF) enabling controllable dual-mode delivery of molecules is developed. The PMNs placed at anode and cathode compartments are modified anionic poly-2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonic acid cationic poly-(3-acrylamidopropyl) trimethylammonium, respectively. direction EOF generated by PMN the compartment is, therefore, reversed from to anode, countering unwanted cathodal suctioning interstitial...

An active form of cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide, LL-37, has immunomodulatory and stimulatory effects, though the specific pathways are not clear. The purpose this study was to identify cellular by which LL-37 amplifies inflammation induced damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs). We performed DNA microarray, reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, immunoblotting, proximity ligation assays using cultured keratinocytes treated with and/or DAMP poly(I:C), a synthetic...

We fabricated a new type of waveguide polarization-independent optical circulator which does not need polarization-beam splitter. The is based on non-reciprocal Mach-Zehnder interferometer consists two Faraday rotators, thin-film half-waveplates and planar lightwave circuit-type 3-dB couplers. provides 14.0-23.7-dB isolation 3.0-3.3 dB insertion loss at /spl lambda/=1.55 μm. This presents possibility for developing devices in the field integrated optics.

Switching action based on total internal reflection caused by an electrically controlled change refractive index the liquid crystal. Propagation loss was remarkably reduced to 2.3 dB/cm, both using crystal as cladding layer and operating at 1.31 μm wavelength. The experimental switch exhibited 7.3-7.7 dB insertion loss, -17.3 -18.2 crosstalk, 14° switching angle.
