Background Measurement of plasma concentration natriuretic peptides ( NP s) is suggested to be value in diagnosis cardiac disease dogs, but many factors other than status may influence their concentrations. Dog breed potentially 1 such factor. Objective To investigate variation concentrations pro‐atrial peptide 31‐67 (pro ANP 31‐67) and N‐terminal B‐type NT ‐pro BNP ) healthy dogs. Animals 535 healthy, privately owned dogs 9 breeds were examined at 5 centers as part the European Union EU...
Abstract Background No treatment other than platelet administration is known to protect against spontaneous hemorrhage in thrombocytopenic dogs. Objectives Primary: determine if with ε‐aminocaproic acid (EACA) decreases the requirement for blood transfusions and improves outcome dogs severe thrombocytopenia. Secondary: find evidence of hyperfibrinolysis effect EACA on rapid (rTEG) tissue plasminogen activator‐spiked (tPA‐rTEG) thromboelastography parameters. Animals Twenty‐seven...
There is no agreement in current publications regarding the reliability of serum concentrations natriuretic peptides (NPs) to detect dogs with subclinical myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) and differentiate between asymptomatic stages. We sought compare N-terminal pro-B-type peptide (NT-proBNP) pro-atrial 31-67 (proANP) various stages canine MMVD investigate influence age, weight, sex.In this prospective study, were classified different using modified Canine Heart failure International...
We report on a patient suffering from chronic anorexia nervosa who in the course of treatment showed elevated high-sensitive troponin T, creatine kinase and most markedly N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP). Elevated enzymes improved significantly throughout without cardiac specific medication but exceeded normal range for weeks. Abnormally high myocardial NT-proBNP cachectic anorectic patients might resemble conditions cachexia. A review available literature is provided....
14616 Background: RAD001 (everolimus) is a novel inhibitor of mTOR currently investigated as an anticancer agent. RAD001- induced inhibition showed prominent impact on glucose homeostasis with the transcription factor HIF-1 one primary mediators and FDG uptake demonstrated by FDG-PET imaging in preclinical models treated RAD001. We postulated that metabolism measured 18F-FDG-PET might serve pharmacodynamic marker treatment lung cancer patients. Methods: Patients previously advanced non-small...
Abstract CASE DESCRIPTION 4 dogs, 7.5 to 10 years of age, were presented for evaluation signs chronic cervical pain and forelimb lameness secondary foraminal intervertebral disk protrusion (IVDP). All dogs refractory ≥ 2 weeks conservative management including strict rest with anti-inflammatory drugs, methocarbamol, gabapentin. CLINICAL FINDINGS The MRI findings included left IVDP at C2-3 causing mild C3 nerve root compression (dog 1), multifocal degenerative disease focal left-sided C6-7...
Abstract An 8‐month‐old female entire Labradoodle was referred for further management of severe non‐cardiogenic pulmonary oedema after an accidental intravenous injection the arsenical compound melarsomine. On arrival, dog non‐ambulatory, obtunded and in respiratory distress. Due to profound hypoxaemia despite oxygen supplementation, intubated mechanically ventilated. While anaesthetised, experienced three episodes cardiac arrest with return spontaneous circulation cardiopulmonary...
Abstract Background : The difficult pre-analytical conditions of platelet function diagnostics discourage its widespread use, e.g., to detect resistance acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) and/or clopidogrel. Platelet activation during blood drawing and sample preparation cannot be prevented by citrate anticoagulation. Here, we tested a new sampling tube containing the anticoagulant benzylsulfonyl-D-Argininyl-Prolyl-4-amidinobenzylamide (Thrombovette ® , Probe&go, Germany). Methods A total 46...
1509 Background: The disastrous 2-year survival rate of only about 15% in lung cancer is mainly due to diagnosis the disease advanced stages. Early detection thus may be a promising strategy improve rates. We aimed at identification specific expression profiles blood samples prior clinical manifestation disease. Methods: A associated RNA-fingerprint was generated peripheral cohort smokers with prevalent (13 cases, 11 controls). This fingerprint validated second (22 15 Next, from 25.000...
5107 Background: The purpose of this study was to compare molecular marker expression and clinical outcomes in patients treated for malignant mixed mesodermal tumor (MMMT) the ovary with previously published findings MMMT uterus. Methods: Following IRB approval, records between 1990 2001 were reviewed retrospectively. Clinical data abstracted from these determine progression-free interval (PFI) overall survival (OS). Available tissue specimens stained estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone...
Abstract Objective To describe the clinical presentation and outcome of a dog with primary hypoparathyroidism secondary to cervical bite wounds. Case Summary A 3‐year‐old male intact Chihuahua presented after being attacked by large breed dog. The sustained severe lacerations, exposing trachea jugular veins. portion right thyroid gland was missing. stabilized before wound debridement closure. Ionized calcium concentrations were within reference range at time presentation. Forty‐eight hours...
