Abstract In this paper, we present a comparative experimental and theoretical study on gamma radiation sensitivity of Long Period Gratings (LPGs), fabricated by electric arc discharge technique, as monitored in three single mode optical fibers supplied different manufacturers. A real-time measurement LPGs’ wavelength shift was performed until total dose 35 kGy reached, with average rate 0.18 kGy/h, the irradiation being done at room temperature. one case, maximum 1.34 nm/kGy recorded for...
This work presents a comparative study regarding the effects of gamma radiation on standard and different hardened optical fibers, by means arc-induced long period gratings (LPGs) written in these fibers. In particular, resonance wavelength shift (Δλ res ) LPG attenuation bands fiber transmitted power (ΔP) have been comparatively explored during irradiation. Different responses were observed...
This paper compares the impact of gamma irradiation on various optical fibers, where evolution in their properties could be identified using long period gratings (LPG) there induced. The LPGs were fabricated broad spectrum commercially available single-mode fibers - from standard to unconventional ones electric arc discharge method. fused silica fiber material contained such dopant as Ge, F, B/Ge and P. exposure has been performed with a dose rate 2.6 kGy/h for 20 h (a total 52 kGy)....
In this work, we report an all-optical-fiber-based method to monitor in real-time the changes thin film optical properties when exposed harsh environments such as high doses of gamma radiation. The is based on a long period grating (LPG) inscribed radiation resistant fiber, which coated with be analyzed. Due impact environment properties, transmission spectrum LPG changes. To validate methodology, deposited oxides various metals, i.e. aluminum (Al2O3), titanium (TiO2), and tantalum (Ta2O5),...
In the present work, we attempted to develop new metal coordination complexes of natural flavonoid 5-hydroxyflavone with Sm(III), Eu(III), Gd(III), Tb(III). The resultant hydroxo have been characterized by a variety spectroscopic techniques, including fluorescence, FT-IR, UV-Vis, EPR and mass spectral studies. general chemical formula is [Ln(C15H₉O₃)₃(OH)₂(H₂O)x]·nH₂O, where Ln lanthanide cation x = 0 for 1 Tb(III) n Tb(III), respectively. proposed structures were optimized DFT calculations....
This paper reports the outcomes of tests that we conducted as online measurements for evaluation one optical fiber long-period grating produced by a fusion technique in single-mode radiation-hardened fiber, and subjected to gamma irradiation. During irradiation, temperature was monitored. Before sensitivity 27.7 pm/°C, while value this parameter postirradiation found be 29.3 pm/°C. The spectral characteristics were measured (i) laboratory with an ANDO AQ6317C spectrum analyzer (ii) online,...
Abstract We investigate the effects of γ irradiation on bismuth active centres (BACs) and related photoluminescence properties bismuth/erbium co-doped silica fibre (BEDF), [Si] ~28, [Ge] ~1.60, [Al] ~0.10, [Er] ~ <0.10 [Bi] ~0.10 atom%, fabricated by in-situ solution doping Modified Chemical Vapor Deposition (MCVD). The samples were irradiated at 1 kGy, 5 15 30 kGy 50 doses, dose rate 5.5 kGy/h, room temperature. optical BEDF are tested before after irradiation. found that high could...
Abstract Radiation sterilization has been considered a mass decontamination technique for biodegradable cultural heritage (CH) since its widespread application in the medical field. Initial experiments have revealed advantages, example, efficiency and effectiveness, but also disadvantages, namely “side effects” concerning CH materials. More than 50 years later, adequacy of ionizing radiation some artefacts is still subject discussion. The main reason why that science industry are not yet...
We experimentally demonstrate a comparative study on the radiation-resistant cerium (Ce) co-doped erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) exposed to high-dose gamma-radiation environment of 1.8 kGy/h dose rate in C and L bands. Our results show that Ce is an effective co-dopant aluminosilicate EDFs for suppressing radiation-induced attenuation (RIA) more than order magnitude lower Ce-free EDF. After exposure up 10 kGy, EDF still exhibits good radiation tolerance, providing 41.6 ± 2.9 dB gain 5...
This work presents an extensive, comparative study of the gamma and electron radiation effects on behaviour femtosecond laser-inscribed fibre Bragg gratings (FBGs) using point-by-point plane-by-plane inscription methods. The FBGs were inscribed in standard telecommunication single mode silica (SMF28) exposed to a total accumulated dose 15 kGy for both radiation. gratings' spectra measured analysed before after exposure radiation, with complementary material characterisation Fourier transform...
The aim of this paper is to investigate the influence gamma irradiation process on colour painted wood panels. Insects and micro-organisms are frequently identified enemies cultural objects from museums archives. Based its biocide effect, radiation could be used for decontamination conservation purposes. Important advantages can mentioned in favour: no toxic or radioactive residues remained treated item; large amount quickly; excellent reliability; attractive cost. In case emergency...
