Abstract Pectin extracted via hydrodynamic cavitation in water only from waste lemon peel and further isolated freeze drying displays significant antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus , a Gram positive pathogen which easily contaminates food. The effect of the new IntegroPectin is largely superior to that commercial citrus pectin, opening way advanced applications bioproduct now obtainable large amounts at low cost juice industry's waste.
Abstract Lemon pectin extracted along with water‐soluble flavonoids and other phytochemicals from citrus industry's waste lemon peel via hydrodynamic cavitation in water, directly at pre‐industrial scale further isolated freeze drying, shows exceptionally high antioxidant non‐cytotoxic activity. Preliminary investigation indicates also significant antimicrobial These findings open the route to development of new nutraceutical healthcare applications a versatile biopolymer endowed...
We investigate selected chemical, technical, and economic aspects of the production fish oil rich in polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids from anchovy filleting leftovers using d-limonene as extraction solvent at ambient temperature pressure. Entirely derived orange peel prior to squeezing for juice production, bio-based is easily recovered, affording a circular economy process with significant potential practical applications.
An HS-SPME GC-MS analysis of the volatile compounds adsorbed at outer surface lemon and grapefruit pectins obtained via hydrodynamic cavitation industrial waste streams peels in water suggests important new findings en route to understanding powerful broad biological activity these pectic materials. In agreement with ultralow degree esterification pectins, high amount highly bioactive α-terpineol terpinen-4-ol points limonene (and linalool) decomposition catalyzed by residual citric acid...
Abstract An ultralow amount of sub‐micron spherical SiO 2 particles encapsulating 7 wt% crude orange oil (SiliOrange) suspended in water shows surprisingly high insecticidal activity against the cotton leafworm Spodoptera littoralis , and significantly reduces progeny aphid Aphis gossypii under laboratory testing conditions. Considering ease reproducible preparation material biocompatible nature both silica essential oil, these results may open route to sustainable pest control using new...
The identification of biomarkers for predicting inter-individual sorafenib response variability could allow hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patient stratification. SNPs in angiogenesis- and drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion (ADME)-related genes were evaluated to identify new potential predictive HCC patients. Five known angiogenesis-related genes, including VEGF-A, VEGF-C, HIF-1a, ANGPT2, NOS3, investigated 34 patients (9 responders 25 non-responders). A subgroup 23 was...
A valued marine oil rich in omega-3 lipids and natural astaxanthin is obtained with remarkably high yield (up to 5 wt %) extending pink shrimp waste (head carapace) using the approach extract fish from processing byproducts d-limonene. Biobased limonene an excellent solvent for both unsaturated astaxanthin-based carotenoids preventing oxidative degradation during extraction cycle including separation at 85 °C. Explaining deep red color of obtained, computational simulation suggests that...
The aim of this study was to assess the nutraceutical qualities extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) samples obtained from three Sicilian cultivars: Nocellara, Biancolilla, and Cerasuola. We also evidenced relationship among biophenols, base parameters panel test scores, evaluated stability biophenols in EVOO. assessment took into consideration variations harvesting periods influence four different milling methods. A statistical analysis collected data revealed that cultivar period were primary...
Abstract Today's green chemistry technologies open the route to a broader and richer economy for lemons, well beyond fresh fruit juice markets. This has important social, environmental, economic consequences all lemon‐growing countries many industries. Which are new bioproducts obtainable from lemon its by‐products? And what unforeseen applications of old such as pectin? Following an updated outlook on global economy, it is shown through selected examples how bioeconomy might unfold in...
Abstract To investigate the vitamin content in an AnchoisOil sample stored at − 20 °C under N 2 for more than four years, we have developed a new HPLC method simultaneous identification and quantification of vitamins anchovy fish oil that is efficient applicable practice. Coupled to full retention original visual appearance (orange color transparency), relatively high concentrations lipid-soluble Q (coenzyme Q10) A (retinol) extracted with d -limonene from European fillet leftovers years...
Aim: To assess whether Omeg@Silica microparticles – fish oil from anchovy fillet leftovers (AnchoisOil) encapsulated within mesoporous silica particles are effective in promoting antitumor effects lung cancer cells. Methods: Three human non-small-cell cell lines (A549, Colo 699 and SK-MES-1) were used. Cells treated with AnchoisOil dispersed ethanol (10 15 μg/ml) or further formulated aqueous ethanol. Cell cycle, reactive oxygen species, mitochondrial stress long-term proliferation assessed....

Thanks to the pioneering studies of Østerud and co-workers, it is now increasingly understood that natural polyphenols present in marine oils play an essential role protecting omega-3 lipids from oxidation autoxidation, ensuring no proinflammatory products are formed after intake as often happens with assumption refined concentrates. Strong antioxidants exerting multiple biological functions, olive biophenols ideally suited functionalize oils, creating a synergy has potential improve public...

Abstract The analysis via GC‐MS of the amino acids present in AnchoisFert, a new organic fertilizer co‐product fish oil extraction from anchovy fillet leftovers using limonene, unveils presence 16 acids, essential, quasi‐essential and non‐essential. Leucine, glycine, glutamic acid alanine are most abundant AAs. Proline, aspartic acid, arginine, serine, lysine phenylalanine also relatively plentiful. Alongside results techno‐economic life cycle assessment analyses, these outcomes suggest that...
Abstract Fish oil rich in long‐chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, vitamin D 3 and carotenoid pigments have been sustainably extracted from anchovy fillet leftovers using biobased limonene. The is conveniently stabilized by adsorption on periodic mesoporous silicas. simplicity of the process, high load fish oil, biocompatible nature silica support numerous forthcoming applications this new class “Omeg@Silica” materials.
