We report results from a combined analysis of solar neutrino data all phases the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory (SNO). By exploiting particle identification information obtained proportional counters installed during third phase, this improved background rejection in that phase experiment. The SNO resulted total flux active flavors ${}^{8}\mathrm{B}$ decays Sun...
We have measured parity-violating asymmetries in elastic electron-proton scattering over the range of momentum transfers 0.12 < or =Q2 =1.0 GeV2. These asymmetries, arising from interference electromagnetic and neutral weak interactions, are sensitive to strange-quark contributions currents proton. The measurements were made at Jefferson Laboratory using a toroidal spectrometer detect recoiling protons liquid hydrogen target. results indicate nonzero, Q2 dependent, provide new information...
Results are reported from a joint analysis of Phase I and II data the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory. The effective electron kinetic energy threshold used is ${T}_{\mathrm{eff}}=3.5$ MeV, lowest yet achieved with water Cherenkov detector data. In units ${10}^{6}$ cm${}^{\ensuremath{-}2}$ ${\mathrm{s}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$, total flux active-flavor neutrinos $^{8}\mathrm{B}$ decay in Sun measured using neutral current (NC) reaction on deuterons, no constraint neutrino spectrum, found to be...
Neutron-antineutron oscillations in nature would violate baryon number and indicate a potential underlying mechanism for the observed matter-antimatter asymmetry. Sudbury Neutrino Observatory reports limits on neutron-antineutron first time deuteron. These establish important constraints beyond-the-Standard-Model scenarios that involve baryon-number violation.
We present the first measurement of Q2 dependence neutron spin structure function g2(n) at five kinematic points covering 0.57 (GeV/c)2 < or = 1.34 x approximately 0.2. Though naive quark-parton model predicts g2 0, nonzero values occur in more realistic models nucleon which include quark-gluon correlations, finite quark masses, orbital angular momentum. When scattering from a noninteracting quark, can be predicted using next-to-leading order fits to world data for g1(n). Deviations this...
We have measured the beam-normal single-spin asymmetry in elastic scattering of transversely polarized 3 GeV electrons from unpolarized protons at Q2=0.15, 0.25 (GeV/c)2. The results are inconsistent with calculations solely using nucleon intermediate state and generally agree significant inelastic hadronic contributions. A(n) provides a direct probe imaginary component 2gamma exchange amplitude, complete description which is important interpretation data precision electron-scattering experiments.
We have performed three searches for high-frequency signals in the solar neutrino flux measured by Sudbury Neutrino Observatory (SNO), motivated possibility that $g$-mode oscillations could affect production or propagation of $^8$B neutrinos. The first search looked any significant peak frequency range 1/day to 144/day, with a sensitivity sinusoidal amplitudes 12% greater. second focused on regions which been claimed experiments aboard SoHO satellite, and was sensitive 10% third extra power...
Results are reported from a search for low-multiplicity neutrino bursts in the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory (SNO). Such could indicate detection of nearby core-collapse supernova explosion. The data were taken Phase I (November 1999 - May 2001), when detector was filled with heavy water, and II (July 2001 August 2003), NaCl added to target. blind analysis which potential backgrounds estimated cuts developed eliminate such 90% confidence before examined. maintained greater than 50%...
Using the Sun to tell time is an ancient idea, but we can take advantage of modern technology bring it into 21st century for students in astronomy, physics, or physical science classes. We have employed smartphones, Google Earth, and 3D printing find moment local noon at two widely separated locations. By reviewing GPS time-stamped photos from each place, are able illustrate that longitude-dependent therefore explain need zones.
Kaniadakis deformed \kappa-mathematics is an area of mathematics that has found relevance in the analysis complex systems. Specifically, mathematical framework context a first-order decay \kappa-differential equation investigated, facilitating in-depth examination \kappa-mathematical structure. This serves as foundational platform, representing simplest non-trivial setting for such inquiries which are demonstrated first time literature. Finally, additional avenues study discussed
This work explores the hyperbolic cosine and secant functions within framework of maximum entropy principle, deriving these probability distribution from first principles. The resulting solutions are applied to various physical systems, including repulsive oscillator solitary wave advection equation, using method moments. Additionally, a different moment analysis experimental theoretical inputs is employed address non-linear systems described by Schrödinger diffusion Korteweg–de Vries...
Google Earth has made a wealth of aerial imagery available online at no cost to users. We examine some the potential uses that data in illustrating basic physics and astronomy, such as finding local magnetic declination, using landmarks Washington Monument Luxor Obelisk gnomons, showing how airport runways get their numbers. Close inspection images provided by reveals most them are actually obtained via camera-equipped planes rather than satellites.
The Helium and Lead Observatory (HALO) is a dedicated supernova detector constructed in the underground facilities at SNOLAB Sudbury, Canada. It designed to detect neutrinos from within Milky Way galaxy using lead blocks 3 He neutron detectors. Analysis of neutrino events can produce new discoveries astrophysics fundamental particle physics. HALO will be participant Supernova Early Warning...
In recent years, the Lie group SU(7) has been featured prominently in a number of grand unification proposals involving Standard Model as low energy effective theory. This note investigates framework group. The antisymmetric and symmetric structure constants for algebra su (7) have explicitly calculated from generators fundamental representation SU(7), which are also cataloged.
Although we may consider the power outlets in our homes to be nearly ideal voltage sources, a variety of influences and around home can cause departures from nominal 60 Hz, 110–120 V root-mean-square (rms) North American grid. Even without instrumentation, see that large motor starting rest sufficient lights dim momentarily (voltage sag). This dimming is due inrush current drawn by stationary motor, which several times at operating speed. We prepared monitoring system using divider,...
