DNA methylation regulates gene expression in many organisms. In eukaryotes, is associated with repression, while it exerts both activating and repressive effects the Proteobacteria through largely locus-specific mechanisms. Here, we identify a critical methyltransferase M. tuberculosis, which term MamA. MamA creates N6-methyladenine six base pair recognition sequence present approximately 2,000 copies on each strand of genome. Loss reduces number genes. Each has site located at conserved...

Global control of tuberculosis has become increasingly complicated with the emergence multidrug-resistant strains Mycobacterium First-line treatments are anchored by two antibiotics, rifampin and isoniazid. Most resistance occurs through acquisition missense mutations in resistance-determining region, an 81-base pair region encoding binding site on β subunit RNA polymerase (rpoB). Although these confer a survival advantage presence rifampin, they may alter normal process transcription,...

We estimated the proportion of maternal deaths in Bangladesh associated with acute onset jaundice. used verbal autopsy data from a nationally representative mortality survey to calculate jaundice and compared it previously published estimates. Of all between 2008 2010, 23% were jaundice, 19% 1998 2001. Approximately one five was preceded by unchanged 10 years. Our findings highlight need better understand etiology these Bangladesh.
