The effects of nicotine consumption on uteroplacental blood flow were studied in 20 pregnant women by means placental measurements using indium-113m-transferrin. Smokers found to have a higher rate poor perfusion patterns than subjects control group. In addition, the number cigarettes smoked daily was significantly correlated with type. mean birth weight infants born smokers 250 g lower results suggest that smoking during pregnancy may compromise and thus result fetal development.
