Mast cells (MCs) accumulate in the epithelium of patients with eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), an inflammatory disorder characterized by extensive esophageal infiltration. Esophageal barrier dysfunction plays important role pathophysiology EoE. We hypothesized that MCs contribute to observed impaired epithelial barrier.
