This study sought to identify the effects of culture and sex on mate preferences using samples drawn world-wide. Thirty-seven were obtained from 33 countries located six continents five islands (N = 9,474). Hierarchical multiple regressions revealed strong both sex, moderated by specific characteristics. Chastity proved be characteristic which cultures varied most. The preference ordering each sample was contrasted with an international complement. Each displayed a unique ordering, but there...
The role of adjuvant chemotherapy in stage II colon cancer continues to be debated. presence circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) after surgery predicts very poor recurrence-free survival, whereas its absence a low risk recurrence. benefit for ctDNA-positive patients is not well understood.
Purpose Kasabach-Merritt phenomenon (KMP) is characterized by profound thrombocytopenia, microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, a consumptive coagulopathy, and an enlarging vascular lesion. The syndrome develops in infancy associated with high morbidity mortality rate. purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness vincristine treatment KMP. Methods We retrospectively reviewed clinical laboratory data 15 patients KMP treated at 9 institutions across United States, South America, Europe....
Pattern of spread in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) is variable and may reflect different biology subsets patients. This a retrospective study to explore the outcome mCRC based on their site metastasis at diagnosis association between tumor characteristics [KRAS/RAS, BRAF, mismatch repair (MMR) status, primary] metastasis.Patients from two Australian databases were divided into six groups time disease; lung-only, liver-only, lymph node-only or any brain, bone peritoneal...
Apoptosis of macrophages may be a pathogen-directed mechanism immune escape or represent appropriate host response to infection. Human monocyte–derived (MDMs) from healthy donors (C-MDMs) exhibited low-level constitutive apoptosis, but culture MDMs with opsonized serotype I Streptococcus pneumoniae (I-MDMs) for 20 h resulted in significantly increased apoptosis. I-MDM apoptosis was associated phagocytosis bacteria and intracellular killing that blocked by the caspase inhibitor z-VAD-fmk not...
Predictive drug testing of patient-derived tumor organoids (PDTOs) holds promise for personalizing treatment metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC), but prospective data are limited to chemotherapy regimens with conflicting results. We describe a unified framework PDTO-based predictive across standard-of-care and biologic targeted therapy options. In an Australian community cohort, PDTO predictions based on treatment-naive patients (n = 56) response rates from first-line mCRC clinical trials...
ABSTRACT Recombinant vesicular stomatitis virus (rVSV) has shown great potential as a new viral vector for vaccination. However, the prototypic rVSV described previously was found to be insufficiently attenuated clinical evaluation when assessed neurovirulence in nonhuman primates. Here, we describe attenuation, neurovirulence, and immunogenicity of vectors expressing human immunodeficiency type 1 Gag. These were by combinations following manipulations: N gene translocations (N4), G...
Oscillations are fundamental to communication between neuronal ensembles. We previously reported that pain in awake rats enhances synchrony primary somatosensory cortex (S1) and attenuates coherence S1 ventral posterolateral (VPL) thalamus. Here, we asked whether similar changes occur anesthetized modulates phase-amplitude coupling VPL S1. also hypothesized the suppression of burst firing using Z944, a novel T-type calcium channel blocker, restores thalamocortical connectivity. Local field...
Objective Adolescents seeking weight loss surgery (WLS) frequently encounter obstacles obtaining treatment authorization from insurance carriers. This study identified factors influencing for adolescents with clinical indications WLS. Methods A retrospective review was conducted WLS at five adolescent centers. cohort represented a consecutive series of benefits whom sought between 2009 and 2011. Outcomes included number timing authorizations surgery, denials, appeals. Results Records 57 (74%...
Past research has found that men negotiate more unethically than women, although many studies report comparable rates of unethical negotiation behaviors. Based on evolutionary psychology, we predict conditions under which sex differences in behavior are versus less pronounced. We theorize greater levels among occur because male intrasexual competition for mates. This suggests should primarily emerge situations associated with competition. Using a two-wave survey design, Study 1 positive...
Abstract Cell embedment into a solid support matrix is considered essential for the culture of intestinal epithelial organoids and tumoroids, but this technique presents challenges that impede scalable expansion, experimental manipulation, high-throughput screening diagnostic applications. We have developed low-viscosity (LVM) suspension method enables efficient establishment propagation tumoroids from human large intestine. Organoids cultured in LVM recapitulate morphological development...
108 Background: Previous results of the DYNAMIC study demonstrated that a ctDNA-guided approach versus standard management in stage II colon cancer (CC) reduced adjuvant chemotherapy (ACT) use without compromising 2-year recurrence-free survival (RFS). MMR status defines two distinct subsets CC. Here, we report impact ctDNA burden, end ACT (EOT) ctDNA, and updated data including overall (OS). Methods: is multi-center randomized phase trial. Eligible patients (pts) had resected CC were...
ABSTRACT A variety of rational approaches to attenuate growth and virulence vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) have been described previously. These include gene shuffling, truncation the cytoplasmic tail G protein, generation noncytopathic M mutants. When separately introduced into recombinant VSV (rVSV), these mutations gave rise viruses distinguished from their “wild-type” progenitor by diminished reproductive capacity in cell culture and/or reduced cytopathology decreased pathogenicity...
ABSTRACT Aim To examine the perceptions of nurses receiving Ontological Coaching among Nurses (OCN) intervention in Singapore. Design Descriptive qualitative. Methods Convenience sampling was used to recruit 34 who received OCN and three coaches provided intervention. Written informed consent obtained, semi‐structured, one‐on‐one interviews were collect data, which then transcribed verbatim. Thematic analysis analyse data. Results Three themes with nine sub‐themes identified. The main were:...
