To investigate differences in brain gray matter concentrations or volumes patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSA) and healthy volunteers. Optimized voxel-based morphometry, an automated processing technique for MRI, was used to characterize structural newly diagnosed male patients. University hospital The study consisted of 36 OSA 31 non-apneic volunteers matched age (mean age, 44.8 years). Using the t-test, were identified. statistical significance level set a false discovery...
Background DNA methylation in the promoter region of glucocorticoid receptor gene (NR3C1) is closely associated with childhood adversity and suicide. However, few studies have examined NR3C1 relation to major depressive disorder (MDD) hippocampal subfield volumes. We investigated possible association between structural brain alterations MDD comparison healthy controls. Methods compared degree peripheral blood non-psychotic outpatients that Correlations among methylation, abnormalities...
Abstract Previous evidence suggests that the serotonin transporter gene (SLC6A4) is associated with structure of brain regions are critically involved in dysfunctional limbic-cortical network activity major depressive disorder (MDD). Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and tract-based spatial statistics were used to investigate changes white matter integrity patients MDD compared healthy controls. A possible association between structural alterations tracts DNA methylation SLC6A4 promoter region...
Abstract A single nucleotide polymorphism of rs1360780 in the FKBP5 gene is associated with a predisposition to developing major depressive disorder (MDD). We investigated interactive effects allelic variants, DNA methylation, and diagnosis MDD on structural changes entire brain. One hundred fourteen patients eighty-eight healthy controls underwent T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging genotyping, including methylation intron 7. analyzed volume cortical subcortical regions thickness using...
Objectives: To investigate the pattern of functional organization in human visual cortex through electrical cortical stimulation. Methods: Electrical stimulation was applied to occipital and adjacent cortices using subdural grid electrodes 23 epilepsy patients. Diverse responses were recorded. These divided into different categories according specific response modalities, such as form, color, motion. Form further subdivided simple, intermediate, complex responses....
Abstract Recent studies have reported that methylation of the brain-derived neurotrophic factor ( BDNF ) gene promoter is associated with major depressive disorder (MDD). This study aimed to investigate association between cortical thickness and promoters as well serum levels in MDD. The participants consisted 65 patients recurrent MDD age- gender-matched healthy controls. Methylation were compared groups. right medial orbitofrontal, lingual, lateral occipital, left pars triangularis,...
Abstract Background: The hippocampus is not a uniform structure, but rather consists of multiple, functionally specialized subfields. Few studies have explored hippocampal subfield volume difference in the same sample major depressive disorder (MDD) and bipolar (BD) cases. We aimed to investigate between patents with MDD BD healthy controls (HCs). Methods: A total 102 55 patients 135 HCs were recruited underwent T1-weighted image. Hippocampal was calculated by automated segmentation...
To investigate ictal hyperperfusion patterns during semiologic progression of seizures, the authors performed SPECT subtraction in 50 patients with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE).The were categorized into five groups according to (Group 1 had aura only; Group 2 motionless staring or without aura; 3 and then automatism 4 dystonic posturing automatism; 5 staring, automatism, head version generalized seizures posturing). In 1, three showed ipsilateral two bilateral predominance. In 2, (42.9%)...
To investigate changes in regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) patients with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS). We compared the 99mTc-ethylcysteinate dimer (ECD) single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) images of OSAHS those age- and sex-matched healthy volunteers. University hospital. Twenty-seven severe 27 volunteers underwent 99mTc-ECD brain SPECT studies. For statistical parametric mapping analysis, all were spatially normalized to standard template then smoothed...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE:
Loss of dopaminergic neurons in the nigrostriatal pathway is well-documented PD, whereas neuronal changes beyond are uncertain. The purpose our study was to estimate volume striatum and thalamus, which areas basal ganglia, as well GM WM located pathway, early-stage PD.
MATERIALS METHODS:
We enrolled 30 participants (15 healthy controls 15 patients with PDND H & Y stage I or II). Cognitive function assessed by using MMSE. ICV volumes caudate...
Early neurodevelopmental deviations, such as abnormal cortical folding patterns, are candidate biomarkers of major depressive disorder (MDD). We aimed to investigate the association MDD with local gyrification index (LGI) in each region at whole-brain level, and LGI clinical characteristics MDD.We obtained T1-weighted images from 234 patients 215 healthy controls (HCs). The values 66 regions bilateral hemispheres were automatically calculated according Desikan-Killiany atlas. compared...
To investigate the patterns of ictal perfusion and related clinical factors, single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) subtraction was performed in 61 patients who had undergone epilepsy surgery. In addition to hyperperfusion region, hypoperfusion area obtained by SPECT subtraction. The subtracted were classified into focal hyperperfusion, hyperperfusion-plus, combined hyperperfusion-hypoperfusion only. concordance rate seizure localization 91.8% analysis subtraction, 85.2% images...
To localize cerebral perfusion differences during cataplexy, brain SPECT subtraction was performed between cataplexy and baseline awake period or REM sleep in patients with narcolepsy. During subtracted showed hyperperfusion right amygdala, bilateral cingulate gyri, basal ganglia, thalami, premotor cortices, sensorimotor insula, brainstem, hypoperfusion prefrontal cortex occipital lobe. This result suggests that is produced by the activation of amygdalo-cortico-basal ganglia-brainstem circuit.
To investigate postoperative changes in the cerebral glucose metabolism of patients with mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE), statistical parametric mapping (SPM) analysis was performed on pre- and 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose PET (FDG-PET) images. We included 28 MTLE who had undergone surgery been seizure-free postoperatively (16 left 12 right MTLE). All showed hippocampal sclerosis by pathology or brain MRI. FDG-PET images were reversed to lateralize epileptogenic zone side all patients....
Gray Matter Concentration Abnormality in Brains of Narcolepsy PatientsObjective: To investigate gray matter concentration changes the brains narcoleptic patients.Materials and Methods: Twenty-nine patient with cataplexy 29 age sex-matched normal subjects (mean age, 31 years old) underwent volumetric MRIs.The MRIs were spatially normalized to a standard T1 template subdivided into matter, white cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).These segmented images then smoothed using 12-mm full width at half...
The SLC6A15 gene has been identified as a novel candidate for major depressive disorder (MDD). It is presumed to be involved in the pathophysiology of MDD through regulation glutamate transmission brain. However, involvement this microstructural changes white matter (WM) tracts remains unclear. We aimed investigate influence polymorphism (rs1545853) on structural integrity WM cortico-limbic network.Eighty-six patients with and 64 healthy controls underwent T1-weighted magnetic resonance...
