Background: This cross-sectional study analyzed the pulmonary function in children with sickle cell disease (SCD), assessing abnormalities and comparing these a control group of other forms anemia. Materials methodology: was conducted from July 2022 to June 2024 at Kalinga Institute Medical Sciences, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India, included 126 (63 SCD, 63 anemia) aged between six 18 years. Anthropometric data, clinical history, laboratory parameters were collected, tests (PFTs) performed using...
Abstract Cardiac rhythm regulated by micro-macroscopic structures of heart. Pacemaker abnormalities or disruptions in electrical conduction, lead to arrhythmic disorders may be benign, typical, threatening, ultimately fatal, occurs clinical practice, patients on digitalis, anaesthesia acute myocardial infarction. Both traditional and genetic animal models are: In-vitro: Isolated ventricular Myocytes, Guinea pig papillary muscles, Patch-Clamp Experiments, Porcine Atrial myocytes, muscle:...
Background: Enteric fever is a major health problem in developing countries. Varied clinical presentation leads to diagnostic dilemmas resulting fatal complications. Objective: To determine the socio-demographic, manifestations, complications, antibiotic sensitivity pattern, treatment, and outcome hospitalized enteric patients. Methods: A retrospective case record analysis of patients age group one 14 years with discharge diagnosis was done tertiary care centre Odisha over period three...
Background and objective Malnutrition remains a significant cause of childhood morbidity mortality worldwide. Severe acute malnutrition (SAM) profoundly affects immune development, physiological functions, metabolic processes, increasing susceptibility to infections. This study aimed investigate the prevalence bacterial infections their antibiotic sensitivity patterns among SAM children admitted tertiary care hospital. Methodology prospective observational was conducted at pediatric...
Introduction The allergic sensitization in childhood asthma is common and the prevalence varies different geographical locations. data on allergen to guide clinicians allergy avoidance limited. Method This prospective observational study was conducted between October 2019 April 2020 children aged two 14 years attending an outpatient clinic. Those with recurrent wheezing or physician-diagnosed were interviewed; eosinophil count, total serum immunoglobulin E (IgE) measured; skin prick test...
Objective: To study factors that influence the age of discharge very low birth weight (VLBW) preterm neonates from Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Setting: This cohort was conducted in NICU, Department Pediatrics, Kalinga Institute Medical Sciences, Bhubaneswar, India, April 2019 to December 2019. Patients: Neonates whose <1500 g and gestation <37 weeks were enrolled. Those having major congenital malformation excluded. Outcome: Age at (in days). Results: Out 114 enrolled, 84...
Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a life-threatening disorder due to uncontrolled activation of macrophage and cytokine release, which can be either genetic causes (familial) or secondary infections malignancy other less common cause. Parvovirus B19 rarely HLH. Diagnosing HLH in sickle cell disease, inherently has high ferritin levels pancytopenia, particularly challenging. We are reporting as complication with parvovirus infection the background beta-thalassemia. Based on our...
Background and aim Nephrotic syndrome is one of the commonest glomerular diseases in children, majority them have minimal change lesions histology with a favorable outcome. Most children disease (MCD) are steroid-sensitive, but half frequent relapse prolonged course. This study was conducted to evaluate clinical manifestations biochemical profile determine independent risk factors steroid-sensitive nephrotic (SSNS). Methods tertiary care hospital-based observational at pediatric department...
A BSTRACT Background: Empyema thoracis is a complication of bacterial pneumonia, which can cause significant morbidity and mortality in children. Timely diagnosis adequate treatment pneumonia essential. Objective: To determine clinico-bacteriological profile children admitted with empyema to study their outcome short-term follow-up. Materials Methods: This was prospective observational study, performed age group 1 month 14 years Tertiary Care Hospital Odisha over period 3 (March 2020...
Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a rare and fatal entity in children with fever, organomegaly, cytopenias, liver dysfunction coagulopathy does not respond to conventional therapies. It categorized into two types: Primary (inherited) Secondary (associated infection, malignancy, autoimmune diseases, etc.). Prognosis of primary HLH poor, whereas secondary outcome depends upon the underlying disease. This study retrospective analysis case records admitted diagnosis from January 2016...
Our study evaluates the risk factors of acute kidney injury (AKI) in children with snake envenomation. Out 145 cases, 54 (37%) developed AKI. Unsurprisingly, mortality increased oliguria and higher levels creatinine. Bleeding manifestations were also more common among AKI group.

Drug rash with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) syndrome is a fatal illness manifested by fever, morbilliform rash, multi involvement eosinophilic leucocytosis about 10% mortality. Authors report DRESS in an adolescent girl due to anti-depressant anti-psychotic which improved dramatically after withdrawal of offending drugs starting steroids
Children with prior coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection display an increased systemic inflammation causing multiorgan dysfunctions in the cardiovascular, respiratory, central nervous system, and gastrointestinal (GI) systems, known as MIS-C, that is, multisystem inflammatory syndrome children. Most of MIS-C cases have GI manifestations like pain abdomen, loose motion, vomiting or nausea, elevated liver enzymes, ileus, bleeding. Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptors...
Background: Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) associated with severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 is a new life-threatening entity whose diagnosis and management warrant awareness in-depth knowledge. This study intends to estimate the knowledge, attitudes, practice toward MIS-C among pediatricians of eastern India. Subjects Methods: A descriptive, web-based cross-sectional survey was conducted India between January 1 March 31, 2021, where they were invited...
Abstract In the normal heart cardiac rhythm is controlled by microscopic and macroscopic structures. Abnormality of pacemaker or electrical conduction aberrations causes arrhythmic disorders. Cardiac Arrhythmias may be fortunate, typical, threatening eventually fatal. Cardio-vascular arrhythmia happens commonly in clinical practise affecting drastically to patients on digitalis, anaesthesia acute myocardial infarction. Both traditional genetic animal models arrhythmias, their...
