It is generally believed that opioids relieve neuropathic pain less effectively than nociceptive and they have no effect on some of the key characteristics such as touch-evoked (allodynia). Tramadol an analgesic drug acting directly opioid receptors indirectly monoaminergic receptor systems. The aim this trial was to determine whether tramadol relieved painful polyneuropathy reduced allodynia. study design randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled cross-over. After baseline observations,...

In the United States stroke is third most common cause of death among those aged over 70. Europe incidence 2 per 1000 population a year.1 Survivors are often incapacitated. The frequency depression after estimated at 18-60%.2 Other neurological disorders that may result in mental and cognitive associated with an increased risk suicidal behaviour.3 Studies on possible suicide patients have never been performed. We therefore aimed to estimate, basis cohort selected area Denmark, whether was...

Abstract Levetiracetam is an anticonvulsant which assumed to act by modulating neurotransmitter release via binding the vesicle protein SV2A . This could have impact on signalling in pain pathway. The aim of this study was test analgesic effect levetiracetam central multiple sclerosis. a randomized, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled, cross‐over trial with 3000 mg/day versus placebo (6‐week treatment periods). Patients sclerosis, symptoms and signs complying neuropathic for more than 6 months,...

Objectives The aim of this study was to determine the diagnostic yield and describe spectrum diagnosis encountered by evaluation patients with symptoms suggestive chronic polyneuropathy. Methods We prospectively evaluated 198 referred a department neurology included nerve conduction studies near-nerve technique, quantitative examination temperature sensation, blood tests, chest x-rays, skin biopsies as well tests for differential diagnoses. Results Polyneuropathy found in 147 patients,...

Tricyclic antidepressants are the mainstay of treatment painful polyneuropathy but cannot be used in a substantial number patients. St. John's wort is herbal antidepressant, which may act via mechanisms similar to tricyclics. The aim this study was test if would relieve polyneuropathy. design randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled and cross-over. Fifty-four patients were assigned one two sequences. daily dose three tablets each containing 900 microg totalhypericin. During periods 5...

We assessed the diagnostic yield of adding quantitative sensory testing to standard work-up for polyneuropathy in unselected patients. All patients aged 18 70 years referred our department electrodiagnosis with a tentative diagnosis and symptoms complying predefined criteria were included study. performed near nerve conduction studies 4 nerves determined heat cold detection thresholds on hand foot Thermotest (Somedic AB, Sweden). A stereological estimation of nuclear mean volume in bone and brain invasive meningiomas was made. For comparison the benign estimated. The aim to investigate whether this method could discriminate between these groups. We found that larger than tumors. difference significant moreover it seen there no overlap two In appeared be inside outside bone. No meningiomas. results demonstrate differ from by an objective (p<0.00005).

A stereological estimation of nuclear volume in recurrent and non-recurrent meningiomas was made. The aim to investigate whether this method could discriminate between these two groups. We found that the mean volumes were all larger at debut than any control tumors. individual tumors appeared change with time, showing a tendency diminish. relationship large presentation number or time interval recurrences not found. conclude measurement might help identify group risk recurrence.
