The authors present data on 275 patients who met DSM-III criteria for bulimia. mean age of the was 24.8 years, and average duration illness approximately 7 years. These reported a variety abnormal eating-related behaviors: binge eating (100%), self-induced vomiting (88.1%), laxative abuse (60.6%), diuretic (33.1%), chewing spitting out food (64.5%). Over one-third history problems with alcohol or other drugs most indicated substantial social impairment.
This paper reports the results of a questionnaire survey administered to 1355 college freshman (98.3% response rate) and comparison group 37 female bulimic patients. Questions were contructed elicit information which would allow identification those respondents who meet DSM-III requirements for diagnosis bulimia. 2.1% student population (4.5% females, 0.4% males) met these modified criteria additional criterion weekly binge-eating. The identified "bulimic" students differed from patients in...
Deep coral reefs are different Coral under intense pressure from anthropogenically induced climate warming and habitat destruction. It has been suggested that in deeper waters may provide a refuge less affected by human development change. Rocha et al. , however, show shallow deep biologically different. Furthermore, (or mesophotic) also suffering impacts. Thus, do not represent potential for other reef ecosystems. Indeed, they too threatened need protection. Science this issue p. 281
One hundred obese women with a mean age of 39.2 years, and body mass index (BMI) 35.9 kg/m2 were evaluated before entering treatment study for weight reduction. According to the results structured interview, subjects divided into four groups: (?) no overeating episodes, (2) episodic episodes without feeling loss control, (3) plus sense control (binge eating), (4) full diagnostic criteria binge eating disorder (BED). One-way analyses variance (ANOVAs) revealed significant positive...
A self-report questionnaire designed to elicit the DSM-III inclusion criteria for bulimia was completed by 1389 students (95.9% of those surveyed) from same geographic area surveyed 3 years previously. Approximately 8% female endorsed in each survey. Even with more stringent used current survey, percentage who reported all operationalized and addition engaged weekly binge-purging behavior increased 1% 1980 3.2% 1983. The college reporting survey closely resembled bulimic patients coming...
A new species of the butterflyfish genus Prognathodes is described from specimens collected at a depth 55–61 m off Pearl and Hermes Atoll, Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. This has been observed by mixed-gas divers submersibles depths ranging 45–187 throughout Archipelago, with shallower sightings in Islands deeper Main It similar to P. guezei (Maugé Bauchot 1976) western Indian Ocean, least one other undescribed Palau, differing these number soft dorsal-fin rays, size head, body depth. There...
Although the existence of coral-reef habitats at depths to 165 m in tropical regions has been known for decades, richness, diversity, and ecological importance mesophotic coral ecosystems (MCEs) only recently become widely acknowledged. During an interdisciplinary effort spanning more than two we characterized most expansive MCEs ever recorded, with vast macroalgal communities areas 100% cover between 50-90 extending tens km2 Hawaiian Archipelago. We used a variety sensors techniques...
Luzonichthys seaver, n. sp., is described from two specimens, 42-46 mm standard length (SL) collected Pohnpei, Micronesia. Collections were made by divers on mixed-gas closed-circuit rebreathers using hand nets at depths of 90-100 m. seaver distinct all other species the genus in characters lateral line scales, gill rakers, pelvic fin length, caudal concavity and coloration. Of six Luzonichthys, it appears to be morphologically most similar L. earlei whitleyi.
Lists of species underpin many fields human endeavour, but there are currently no universally accepted principles for deciding which biological should be when alternative taxonomic treatments (and, by extension, scientific names applied to those species). As improvements in information technology make it easier communicate, access, and aggregate biodiversity information, is a need framework that helps taxonomists the users taxonomy decide taxa used society whilst continuing encourage...
Synopsis One hundred and eight women with bulimia were evaluated for affective disorder alcohol or drug abuse, by means of the DSM-III diagnostic criteria. In this sample, 43·5% had a history 18·5% abuse. Approximately 56% patients scored within moderate to severe range depression on Beck Depression Inventory.
The frequencies of various forms eating-related behaviour (such as vomiting and laxative abuse) are reported for a series non-anorectic bulimia patients seen evaluation in an eating disorders clinic. results serum electrolyte, glucose other screening tests these presented. Electrolyte abnormalities were found 82 the 168 (48.8%) who diagnosed having either or atypical disorder. most common abnormality was metabolic alkalosis (27.4%); hypochloremia (23.8%) hypokalemia (13.7%) also commonly...
Five new species of the damselfish genus Chromis 2 (Perciformes 3 : Labroidei 4 Pomacentridae 5 ) are described from specimens collected deep (>60 m) coral-reef habitat in western Pacific by divers using mixed-gas closed-circuit rebreather gear. Two five (C. abyssus and C. circumaurea) each taken at a single locality within Caroline Islands (Palau Yap, respectively); one degruyi) is or observed throughout Islands, two brevirostris earina) several localities Fiji, Vanuatu. All can easily...
Nomenclature represents the backbone upon which virtually all biological information is organized. However, practice of zoological nomenclature has changed relatively little since its start in 1758. As modern technology changes paradigm under scientists exchange information, there increasing need to capitalize on these same technologies fortify nomenclature. ZooBank been proposed as official registry names and nomenclatural acts, zoology, well associated published works their authors, type...
Coral reefs are widely regarded as one of the top science and conservation priorities globally, previous research has demonstrated that these ecosystems harbor an extraordinary biodiversity, myriad ecosystem services, highly vulnerable to human stressors. However, most this knowledge is derived from studies on nearshore shallow-water reefs, with coral reef remaining virtually unstudied in marine areas beyond national jurisdiction (ABNJ), commonly known high seas. We reviewed information...
