We report on the first dual nanosensors for imaging of pH values and oxygen partial pressure in cells. The sensors have a unique nanostructure that soft core structure is rigidized with silane reagent, while poly(ethylene glycol) chains form an outer shell. Lipophilic oxygen-sensitive probes reference dyes are encapsulated inside hydrophobic core, pH-sensitive probe covalently attached to end-group core/shell renders well dispersed highly stable various kinds aqueous media. Their average...
Turned off by oxygen: Luminescent upconverting nanoparticles (UCNPs) of the type NaYF4:Yb,Tm are employed in an entirely new optical sensor for oxygen (see picture). Upon laser excitation at 980 nm, these UCNPs act as nanolamps, blue emission which is used to photoexcite iridium complex dissolved ethyl cellulose. Its green emission, turn, dynamically and fully reversibly quenched molecular oxygen. Detailed facts importance specialist readers published "Supporting Information". Such documents...
Abstract Studies on the influence of four different solvents morphology and photovoltaic performance bulk‐heterojunction films made poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT) [6,6]‐phenyl‐C 61 butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) via spin‐coating for applications are reported. Solvent‐dependent PCBM cluster formation P3HT crystallization during thermal annealing investigated with optical microscopy grazing‐incidence wide‐angle X‐ray scattering (GIWAXS) found to be insufficient explain differences in device...
Luminescence imaging of biological parameters is an emerging field in biomedical sciences. Tools to study 2D pH distribution are needed gain new insights into complex disease processes, such as wound healing and tumor metabolism. In recent years, luminescence-based methods for measurement have been developed. However, vivo applications, especially studies on humans, biocompatibility reliability under varying conditions be ensured. Here, we present a referenced luminescent sensor...
Raman microspectroscopy can be used effectively to study very small samples or areas within a transparent sample. With the application of technique confocal microscopy microscope, depth resolution instrument enhanced considerably. Confocal uses pinhole, placed in back image plane microscope objective, block light from outside focal plane. In this way signal volume element one wants better separated signals arising surrounding material. paper we show that performance described satisfactorily...
Living color: Fluorescent pH-sensitive nanoparticles 12 nm in diameter were prepared and incorporated into agarose gel a Petri dish to image pH changes during bacterial growth metabolism (see picture). As service our authors readers, this journal provides supporting information supplied by the authors. Such materials are peer reviewed may be re-organized for online delivery, but not copy-edited or typeset. Technical support issues arising from (other than missing files) should addressed...
Two kinds of imaging: A fluorescent sensor membrane is presented that responds to pH and pO2 at different emission wavelengths. The fluorescence intensities can be imaged with a digital camera using the red-green-blue (RGB) data storage option.
Wound repair is a quiescent mechanism to restore barriers in multicellular organisms upon injury. In chronic wounds, however, this program prematurely stalls. It known that patterns of extracellular signals within the wound fluid are crucial healing. Extracellular pH (pHe) precisely regulated and potentially important signaling wounds due its diverse cellular effects. Additionally, sufficient oxygenation prerequisite for cell proliferation protein synthesis during tissue repair. was,...
Neutron-diffraction experiments were performed on polycrystalline samples of $\ensuremath{\alpha}\ensuremath{-}{\mathrm{O}}_{2}$ at 6 and 22 K $\ensuremath{\beta}\ensuremath{-}{\mathrm{O}}_{2}$ 30 K. A large amount preferred orientation was observed in all samples. For the first time a quantitative analysis carried out to determine magnetic structures with use Rietveld profile refinement technique. The structure is collinear anti-ferromagnetic moments directed nearly along monoclinic $b$...
Intracellular oxygen is an important indicator for cell metabolism and respiration. We have designed self-referenced RGB PEBBLEs that enable a simple readout of the intracellular distribution with conventional wide-field microscopy standard digital camera. The consist hydrophobic matrix covered amino groups on surface to confer water-dispersibility. Two luminophores are incorporated in polystyrene highly permeable oxygen. In polystyrene, dyes largely protected from quenching or aggregation...
We report on sensing spots containing an amine reactive chromogenic probe and a green fluorescent (amine insensitive) reference dye incorporated in hydrogel matrix solid support. Such enable rapid direct determination of primary amines and, especially, biogenic (BA). A distinct color change from blue to red occurs dipping the test into pH 9.0 sample amines. BAs can be determined concentration range 0.01 10 mM within 15 min, enabling rapid, qualitative, semiquantitative evaluation. In...
In many wetland plants, belowground transport of O2 via aerenchyma tissue and subsequent loss across root surfaces generate small oxic zones at depth in the rhizosphere with important consequences for carbon nutrient cycling. This study demonstrates how roots intertidal salt marsh plant Spartina anglica affect not only O2, but also pH CO2 dynamics resulting distinct gradients rhizosphere. A novel planar optode system (VisiSens TD ®, PreSens GmbH) was used taking high-resolution 2D-images...
The phase separation and molecular intermixing in poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT)/[6,6]-phenyl-C61 butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) bulk heterojunction thin films are investigated as a function of the overall PCBM content. structural length scales, sizes, miscibility ratio probed with grazing incidence small-angle neutron scattering (GISANS). content is varied between 9 67 wt %. For symmetric P3HT/PCBM ratio, which typically highly efficient photovoltaic devices, structure size 20 nm, largest...
Chemical reactions are usually performed in solvents. The course of the reaction varies with solvent, temperature, etc. Solvent molecules not taken into account quantum simulations due to rising computational effort. However, their ability transfer heat (kinetic energy) and from reacting species can be incorporated simulations. We demonstrate that different chemistry follows by varying absolute simulation temperature range for fluctuations Car−Parrinello dynamics applied ruthenium catalyzed...

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is evaluated as a quantitative analytical tool for low concentrations of melamine and derivatives in solution. Substantial variations absolute relative intensities SERS bands were encountered using silver sols, which cannot be controlled. Alternatively, it was shown that roughened electrode, while conditioning the applied potential, permits acquisition spectra from electrode spots down to 1 μm size, results multiple measurements hard cathodic...
