Abstract. Prospective measurements were made of serum C‐reactive protein levels and erythrocyte sedimentation rate in sixty‐four patients with Crohn's disease fifty ulcerative colitis. The results related to clinical assessment activity. raised both groups but significantly higher than colitis for all categories severity: mild the median range concentration 4, 0–65 mg/l v . 0, 0–15 colitis, P <0·01; moderate values 15, 1–100 3, 0–29 respectively, <0·05 cases severe disease, 85, 15–183...
Chemoprevention is key in managing actinic keratoses and preventing the development of skin cancer, especially individuals with cutaneous field cancerization [1]. Treatments including topical agents (5-fluorouracil [5-FU] imiquimod), oral medications (niacinamide acitretin), light therapies like photodynamic therapy (PDT) target keratinocyte changes contiguous areas However, patient adherence to these remains challenging, often due bothersome reactions [2]. This study assesses discrepancy...
BACKGROUND Single-stage flap reconstruction of surgical defects the anterior mid and lower ear can prove challenging due to a relative paucity local adjacent tissues. While staged options for such are well described, similar single-stage lacking. OBJECTIVE The authors describe techniques design execution flaps repair soft tissue on concha cavum, incisura, antitragus, antihelix, lobule after skin cancer extirpation. MATERIALS AND METHODS A retrospective review was conducted transposition used...
ABSTRACT Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a group of inherited skin disorders characterized by extreme fragility, leading to recurrent blistering and significant impacts on patients' quality life. A bibliometric analysis the 50 most‐cited EB articles from past six decades reveals that majority research focuses understanding pathogenesis, with growing emphasis therapeutic interventions, particularly gene cell‐based therapies. This study highlights shift toward clinical trials in recent years,...
Severe watery diarrhoea in a patient with medullary thryoid carcinoma and high calcitonin levels was associated increased distal ileal flow. Plasma from the inhibited small intestinal fluid absorption dogs without affecting mucosal cyclic AMP levels. When removed plasma, effect experimental bowel loops abolished but could be restored on restitution of comparable hormone pure calcitonin. These studies, combined failure to find evidence prostaglandin activity patient, suggest that circulating...
We report a patient in whom haemobilia occurred after percutaneous liver biopsy. Selective hepatic arteriography showed fistula between artery and portal venous system, with appearance of contrast the biliary tract. Intrahepatic bleeding was stopped by arterial embolisation mixture gelatine foam sterile dura mater. Cholecytectomy subsequently required as haemocholecyst developed. The technique allows accurate localisation intrahepatic sites may avoid need for direct surgical approach to this problem.
Mitochondrial disease is a disorder of energy metabolism that affects 1 in 4300 adults the UK. Pregnancy associated with physiological demands have implications for metabolism. We were interested to know how pregnancy was affected women mitochondrial disease, particularly those most common pathogenic mutation m.3243A>G.Retrospective case-comparison study.Sixty-seven genetically confirmed from UK Diseases Cohort and 69 unaffected participated.Participants answered questionnaires regarding...
Three cases are reported of adult coeliac disease associated with rheumatoid arthritis.Coeliac is many disorders, such as dermatitis herpetiformis,' 2 hyposplenism,3 and autoimmune diseases.5Lancaster-Smith et al.6 found that 19% their patients gave a history an disorder, but only one studied had arthritis. We have recently the opportunity studying 3 arthritis. Two these also herpetiformis, in addition cutaneous vasculitis biopsy-proved Sjogren's syndrome. Case histories CASE 1Mrs A, aged 35,...
Abstract In the present study we have investigated 53 patients with a spectrum of acute and chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection for presence leucocyte HBV‐DNA aid molecular techniques. was detected in peripheral blood mononuclear cells 31 45 (69%) HBsAg carriers 2 8 (25%) B. Although more frequently leucocytes from those seropositive HBeAg (79%), 50% anti‐HBe serum had positive independent HBV‐DNA. Examination various subpopulations showed polymorphonuclear as well T‐ non‐T‐enriched...
