ABSTRACT Claudin-16 protein (CLDN16) is a component of tight junctions (TJ) with restrictive distribution so far demonstrated mainly in the kidney. Here, we demonstrate expression CLDN16 also tooth germ and show that claudin-16 gene mutations result amelogenesis imperfecta (AI) 5 studied patients familial hypomagnesemia hypercalciuria nephrocalcinosis (FHHNC). To investigate role formation, murine model FHHNC showed deficiency led to altered secretory ameloblast TJ structure, lowering...
Objectives: To evaluate the prevalence of dental agenesis and its possible association with other developmental anomalies systemic entities.Setting Sample Population: Descriptive transversal study, for which 1518 clinical records, patients visited by Odontological Service Primary Health Centre Cassà de la Selva (Girona-Spain) between December 2002 February 2006 were reviewed. The data recorded in relation to oral associated entities, ones referred as concomitant literature. Results: Values...
The objective of the present work was to study phenotype and genotype three generations a family affected by oligodontia other dental anomalies. These members also presented systemic conditions such as hypercholesterolemia, hypothyroidism, diabetes mellitus, scoliosis, congenital cardiovascular Clinical evaluation, panoramic radiographs, anamnestic data were used for analysis. DNA extraction carried out from gum samples or buccal swabs. A mutation identified in six subjects across...
Abstract Aim To establish an image analysis procedure for measuring the bone‐to‐implant contact ( BIC ) by a systematic non‐subjective approach based on backscattered scanning electron microscopy BS ‐ SEM images. Material and methods A total of 36 dental implants (9 mm length, Ø 4.0 with SBM surface) were implanted in six beagle dog mandibles. The removed after 1, 2, 4, 6, 8 weeks then embedded resin cut along their long axis. Sample observation was performed , acquiring 10 to 16 images per...
The delivery of osteogenic factors is a proven therapeutic strategy to promote bone regeneration. Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) constitute family cytokines with well-known and regenerative abilities. However, clinical uses BMPs require high doses that have been associated complications such as osteolysis, ectopic formation, or hematoma formation. In the present work, we sought improve tissue engineering through an approach combines use marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSCs),...
Cecropia pachystachya leaves are popularly used to treat asthma and diabetes. Despite the widespread consumption of this plant, there few scientific studies regarding its toxicological potential. In order conduct a thorough study concerning potential adverse effects, aim was assess acute subacute toxicity tests crude aqueous extract from C. (CAE-Cp) using in vivomodel, as well vitro cytotoxicity, genotoxicity antioxidant activity. addition, genotoxicity, cytotoxicity chlorogenic acid (CGA)...
Objective: To assess the efficacy of oral health instructions, particularly in control dental plaque, as well effectiveness reinforcement same instructions. Methods: A quasi-experimental study was conducted at University Clinic Portuguese Catholic (UCP) Viseu-Portugal from January to June 2012. Three different assessments were performed with 30 participants using O’Leary Plaque Index and a questionnaire on behavior, one-month interval between each assessment. In first assessment, all...
To verify the eventual relationship between maxillary lateral incisor agenesis (MLIA) and one of clinically established facial biotypes. The analysis was performed in 3 groups: individuals with MLIA, their relatives a control population defined as "normal" or unaffected.Among these, comparison adults growing also carried out.The dolicofacial biotype mainly found children bilateral agenesis, while unilateral well unaffected showed mesofacial pattern. The braquiofacial prevalent without but...
In this poster we apply the 3D-cubeness shape descriptor from [1] (C(S)) to a sample (n=37, vertebra, male) of cubic trabecular bone volumes obtained by microcomputerized tomography (CT). Also theoretical models with decreasing number assigned voxels, irrespective their position, were analyzed. Our results show that C(S) correctly classifies and according volume density (BV/TV) parameter (r=0.97; r2=0.95), fractal dimension (FD-BV) (r=0.87; r2=0.80). This provides an alternative standard...
