Magnesium sulfate is used widely to prevent eclamptic seizures in pregnant women with hypertension, but few studies have compared the efficacy of magnesium that other drugs. Anticonvulsant prophylaxis phenytoin for eclampsia has been recommended, there are virtually no data support its efficacy. Our objective was compare preventing hypertensive during labor.
Background Reports indicate that the administration of epidural analgesia for pain relief during labor interferes with and increases cesarean deliveries. However, only a few controlled trials have assessed effect on incidence delivery. The authors' primary purpose in this randomized study was to evaluate effects rate deliveries by providing suitable alternative: patient-controlled intravenous analgesia. Methods Seven hundred fifteen women mixed parity spontaneous at full term were randomly...
During a 12-year period, when more than 106,000 women were delivered, 28 with peripartum heart failure of obscure etiology that initially was diagnosed as cardiomyopathy studied. None had obvious underlying cardiac disease or iatrogenic fluid overload, and in all an assiduous search for cardiovascular launched. In 21 these women, attributed to chronic (chronic hypertension 14, forme fruste mitral stenosis four, morbid obesity one) viral myocarditis. Importantly, also multiple compounding...

Objective: To assess the prevalence of head circumference to abdomen (HC/AC) asymmetry among small for gestational age (SGA) fetuses, and determine likelihood adverse outcomes asymmetric symmetric SGA infants compared with their appropriate (AGA) counterparts. Methods: In a retrospective cohort study, we analyzed consecutive live-born singletons women who had antepartum sonography within 4 weeks delivery delivered between January 1, 1989 September 30, 1996. A age–specific HC/AC nomogram was...
Background Combined spinal-epidural (CSE) analgesia produces rapid-onset pain relief and allows ambulation in early labor. Epidural local anesthetics may contribute to an increase operative deliveries by decreasing perineal sensation causing motor weakness. Operative delivery rates might be reduced with CSE, avoiding or delaying administration of anesthetics. This study compares the associated a CSE technique those intravenous meperidine for labor analgesia. Methods Healthy parturients at...
Three blinded observers on three separate occasions calculated four commonly employed patellar height ratios the knees of 15 patients who had lateral radiographs each. The used same measurement instrument, a hand-held goniometer ruler, to determine relative reliability each ratio. measurements by were examined, and error methods tested statistically. Among measuring that we studied, Blackburne-Peel method most consistently reproduced index. Interobserver averaged 0.06 for all ratios. Values...
Objectives: Our aim was to evaluate the utility of color flow mapping in prediction placental myometrial invasion women with Cesarean delivery. Methods Ultrasound performed on implantations potential proximity hysterotomy scar. The smallest thickness measured under placenta degree attenuation this area and note made unusual vascular lakes. Results Two hundred fifteen placentas prior scar underwent Doppler mapping. Of 20 previa delivery, 15 had hysterectomy for bleeding complications nine...
There are a number of risk factors for traumatic injury in veterinary practice but there is little information on the prevalence injuries or associated with this profession. To identify sustained by veterinarians and groups most at different types injury.Cross-sectional survey Australian veterinarians. Subjects were asked whether they had ever significant work-related injury, less serious acute work last 12 months, chronic musculoskeletal problem dog cat bites. The gender, type decade...
Bispecific antibodies (bAbs) that engage cerebrovascular targets, induce transport across the blood-brain barrier (BBB), and redistribute to secondary targets within brain parenchyma have potential transform diagnosis treatment of a wide range central nervous system disorders. Full understanding pharmacokinetics (PK) these agents, including their for delivering cargo into parenchymal cells, is key priority development numerous therapeutic applications. To date, PK bAbs target transferrin...

Objective. To determine if endothelial monolayer permeability could be altered by serum from preeclampsia (PE). Methods. Confluent normal cells (ECs) were incubated with 20% nonpregnant females, and PE pregnancies or combined antioxidant superoxide dismutase (SOD) for 8 hr. ECs pregnancies. EC barrier function of was accessed measuring electrical resistance (ER) the leakage horseradish peroxidase (HRP) passing through filters. Plasma concentrations IL‐8 lipid peroxides MDA also measured. We...
Thrombin receptors, i.e. proteinase-activated receptors (PARs), are expressed in endothelial cells (ECs) and neutrophils directly affect platelet function thrombosis. Although dysfunction neutrophil activation have been demonstrated women with preeclampsia (PE), the expression regulation of PARs not defined PE. In this study, we measured ECs derived from normal preeclamptic pregnancies. We also examined effects placental factors on PAR these vitro. were isolated umbilical cords (human vein...
