Peptide nucleic acid (PNA) is a DNA mimic that shows good stability against nucleases and proteases, forming strongly recognized complementary strands of RNA. However, due to its feeble ability cross the cellular membrane, PNA activity targeting gene action limited. Halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) are natural low-cost aluminosilicate clay. Because peculiar membrane represents valuable candidate for delivering genetic materials into cells. Herein, two differently charged 12-mer PNAs capable...

Breast cancer continues to cause significant burden in global health morbidity and mortality. Triple-negative breast cancers (TNBCs) are highly aggressive with poor prognosis characterized by lack of expression estrogen receptor, progesterone human epidermal growth factor receptor (Her-2). TNBCs often resistant cytotoxic chemotherapy pose major difficulty achieving personalized medicine due their molecular heterogeneity. There is increasing evidence that the aberrant activation nuclear...

Abstract A series of [1,2]oxazolo[5,4‐ e ]isoindole derivatives was evaluated against HL‐60 cell line and its multidrug resistance (MDR) variant, HL‐60R, resistant to doxorubicin other P‐gp substrates by overexpressing the efflux pump. They displayed antiproliferative activities, with IC 50 values ranging from 0.02 5.5 µM. In particular, newly synthesized compound 4k produced synergistic effects in terms growth inhibition death induction either combination a Vinca alkaloid, Vinblastine,...

We examined the effects of curcumin and its isoxazole analogue MR 39 in MCF-7 breast cancer cell line multidrug-resistant (MDR) variant MCF-7R. In comparison with MCF-7, MCF-7R lacks estrogen receptor α (ERα) overexpressess P-glycoprotein (P-gp), different IAPs (inhibitory apoptosis proteins) COX-2. Through analyses on proliferation, cycling death, we have observed that antitumor activity more potent (approximately two-fold) is at least equal MDR compared to parental MCF-7. Similar results...

We examine the possible evidence that phytochemical curcumin may overcome resistance to hormonal and cytotoxic agents in breast cancer. present our observations on MCF‐7R, a multidrug‐resistant (MDR) variant of MCF‐7 cancer cell line. In contrast MCF‐7, MCF‐7R lacks aromatase estrogen receptor α (ERα) overexpresses multidrug transporter ABCB1 products different genes implicated proliferation survival, like c‐IAP‐1, NAIP, survivin, COX‐2. Nevertheless, cytotoxicity death induction assays, we...

Hypercholesterolemia is one of the major causes cardiovascular disease, risk which further increased if other forms dyslipidemia occur. Current therapeutic strategies include changes in lifestyle coupled with drug administration. Statins represent most common approach, but they may be insufficient due to onset resistance mechanisms and side effects. Consequently, patients mild hypercholesterolemia prefer use food supplements since these are perceived safer. Here, we investigate phytochemical...

Drug resistance is the ability of cancer cells to gain both conventional and novel chemotherapy agents, remains a major problem in therapy. Resistance mechanisms are multifactorial involve more strictly pharmacological factors, such as P-glycoprotein (P-gp) biological factors inhibitor apoptosis proteins (IAPs) nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) pathway. Possible therapeutic strategies for treatment acute myeloid leukemia (AML) have increased recent years; however, drug most pa-tients. Phytol...

Recently, fluorescent sensors have gained considerable attention due to their high sensitivity, low cost and noninvasiveness. Among the different materials that can be used for this purpose, carbon dots (CDs) represent valuable candidates applications in sensing. These, indeed, are easily synthesized, show quantum yield highly biocompatible. However, it was pointed out photoluminescence properties of these nanomaterials strictly dependent on synthetic purification methods adopted. The...

A bstract : Interleukin‐6 plays a central role in regulating the immune system, hematopoiesis, and acute phase reaction. It interacts with receptor complex consisting of specific ligand‐binding protein (IL‐6R, gp80) signal transduction (gp130). In this report, serum levels IL‐6 soluble form interleukin‐6 (sIL‐6R) were evaluated patients hepatocellular carcinoma. The correlation between sIL‐6R values, stage carcinoma, main liver function tests was also studied.

A bstract : WISPs (Wnt‐induced secreted proteins) are members of the CCN (CTGF/Cyr61/Nov) family involved in fibrotic disorders and tumorigenesis. They have a typical structure composed four conserved cysteine‐rich modular domains, but variants lacking one or more modules, generated by alternative splicing gene mutations, been described various pathological conditions. WISP genes were first as downstream targets Wnt signaling pathway, which is frequently altered human hepatocellular...
