It has long been a staple of psychological theory that early life experiences significantly shape the adult's understanding and reactions to social world. Here we consider how concept development along with evolved motives operating in can come exert passive, unconscious influence on human higher-order goal pursuits, judgments, actions. In particular, focus concepts structures specialized for interacting physical environment (e.g., distance cues, temperature, cleanliness, self-protection),...

Four studies support the hypothesis that expressing negative emotion is associated with positive relationship outcomes, including elicitation of support, building new close relationships, and heightening intimacy in closest those relationships. In Study 1, participants read vignettes which another person was experiencing a emotion. Participants reported they would provide more help when chose to express 2, watched confederate preparing for speech. provided her she expressed nervousness. 3,...

Contemporary interpersonal biases are partially derived from psychological mechanisms that evolved to protect people against the threat of contagious disease. This behavioral immune system effectively promotes disease avoidance but also results in an overgeneralized prejudice toward who not legitimate carriers In three studies, we tested whether experiences with two modern forms protection (vaccination and hand washing) attenuate relationship between concerns about out-groups. The gastric pathogen Helicobacter pylori forms biofilms on abiotic and biotic surfaces. We have shown previously that H. perceives the quorum signal autoinducer-2 (AI-2) as a chemorepellent. report here chemorepulsion from endogenous AI-2 influences proportions spatial organization of cells within biofilms. Strains fail to produce (∆luxS strains) or are defective for chemotaxis (∆cheA formed more spatially homogenous with greater proportion adherent versus planktonic than wild-type...

Helicobacter pylori's ability to respond environmental cues in the stomach is integral its survival. By directly visualizing H. pylori swimming behavior when encountering a microscopic gradient consisting of repellent acid and attractant urea, we found that able simultaneously detect both signals, response depends on magnitudes individual signals. testing for bacteria's pure gradient, discovered chemoreceptors TlpA TlpD are each independent sensors. They enable escape from increases hydrogen...

Patients with TP53-mutated acute myeloid leukemia (AML) have an extremely poor prognosis, necessitating new treatments. The global, randomized, phase 3 ENHANCE-2 trial evaluated the anti-CD47 monoclonal antibody magrolimab plus azacitidine (Magro/Aza) for previously untreated AML. determined inappropriate intensive therapy were randomized to receive Magro/Aza or venetoclax (Ven/Aza); those appropriate 7+3 induction chemotherapy. Primary endpoint was overall survival (OS) in non-intensive...

Abstract The deep-sea mussel Bathymodiolus harbors chemosynthetic bacteria in its gills that provide it with nutrition. Symbiont colonization is assumed to occur early life stages by uptake from the environment, but little known about this process. In study, we used fluorescence situ hybridization examine symbiont distribution and specificity of infection process juvenile B. azoricus puteoserpentis (4–21 mm). smallest juveniles, observed symbionts, no other bacteria, a wide range epithelial...

Abstract Across two studies, we find evidence for our prediction that experimentally increasing feelings of physical safety increases conservatives' socially progressive attitudes. Specifically, Republican and conservative participants who imagined being endowed with a superpower made them invulnerable to harm (vs. the ability fly) were more (but not economically) liberal (Study 1) less resistant social change 2). Results suggest attitudes are driven, at least in part, by needs security.

Single-cell RNA sequencing is a powerful tool to examine cellular heterogeneity, novel markers and target genes, therapeutic mechanisms in human cancers animal models. Here, we analyzed single-cell data of T cells obtained from multiple mouse tumor models by PCA-based subclustering coupled with TCR tracking using the STARTRAC algorithm. This approach revealed various differentiated cell subsets activation states, correspondence between tumors. analyses demonstrated peripheral that were...

Both groups began in mid-1970s by early 1980s had become extremely active. However, shortly afterwards, attacks fatalities attributed to ASALA JCAG plummeted, 1988 both effectively disintegrated. The pivotal historical event our analysis is an especially brutal attack on Paris's Orly Airport 1983, which believe undermined legitimacy...

Using this system, 7 to 10 mg sTva per liter cultured Sf9 cells obtained. Characterization carbohydrate modification revealed that three N glycosylation sites in were differentially utilized; however, O common Tva mammalian not observed.
