Abstract The Indian summer monsoon (ISM) is critical to billions of people living in the region. Yet, significant debates remain on primary ISM drivers millennial-orbital timescales. Here, we use speleothem oxygen isotope (δ 18 O) data from Bittoo cave, Northern India reconstruct variability over past 280,000 years. We find strong coherence between North and Chinese δ O records East Asian domain, suggesting that both subsystems exhibit a coupled response changes Hemisphere insolation (NHSI)...

The Levant constitutes an important region for assessing linkages between climate and societal changes throughout the course of human history. However, large uncertainties remain in our understanding region's hydroclimate variability under varying boundary conditions. Here we present a new high-resolution, precisely dated speleothem oxygen-carbon isotope Sr/Ca records, spanning last 20 ka from Jeita Cave, northern Levant. Our record reveals higher (lower) precipitation-evaporation (P-E)...

Abstract The extent to which climate variability in Central Asia is causally linked large-scale changes the Asian monsoon on varying timescales remains a longstanding question. Here we present precisely dated high-resolution speleothem oxygen-carbon isotope and trace element records of Asia’s hydroclimate from Tonnel’naya cave, Uzbekistan Kesang western China. On orbital timescales, supra-regional variance, inferred our oxygen records, exhibits precessional rhythm, punctuated by...

In southeastern China (SEC), the precipitation amount produced by East Asian summer monsoon (EASM) is almost equivalent to that during non-summer (NSM) period, both of them significantly affecting agriculture and socioeconomy. Here, we present a seasonally-resolved stalagmite δ18O record (δ18Os) for interval 1810-2009 AD from E'mei cave, Jiangxi Province, SEC. The comparison between δ18Os instrumental data indicates variability primarily controlled seasonality (i.e., ratio EASM/NSM...

Abstract. The precipitation variations of Longxi area, northeast margin the Tibetan Plateau since AD 960 are reconstructed from Chinese historical documentary records. These records show that 960, decreased and reached lowest level at end 17th 18th centuries. After this period, gradually increased. three short wet periods in last millennium were: 10th century to early years 11th century, 12th 13th during first half 20th century. coincide well with Northern Hemisphere temperature atmospheric...

Abstract. We synthesized high-resolution precisely-dated stalagmite records and historical document from north central China to reconstruct a decadal resolution precipitation record during the last 1800 years (190–1980 AD). The shows coincident variations significant positive correlations with temperature reconstructions on centennial- multidecadal-scale, suggesting warm-humid/cool-dry was main climate pattern in over past years. Solar activity may be dominant force that drove same-phase of China.

Antarctic bottom water (AABW) production is a key factor governing global ocean circulation, and the present disintegration of Ice Sheet slows it. However, its long-term variability has not been well documented. On basis high-resolution chemical scanning well-dated marine ferromanganese nodule from eastern Pacific, we derive record abyssal ventilation spanning past 4.7 million years evaluate linkage to AABW formation over this period. We find that was relatively weak in early Pliocene...

Abstract In this study, we investigated the interannual and intraannual variabilities in oxygen isotope composition (δ 18 O) preserved tree ring cellulose of Pinus taiwanensis lower reaches Yangtze River, southeast China, to explore its potential utility for precipitation reconstruction over period 1855–2013. Intraannual variations δ O show distinct annual cycles that are characterized by maxima early growth near boundary minima middle late portions ring. Seasonal patterns were influenced...
