A taxonomic revision of the Liogenys Guérin-Méneville, 1831 (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Melolonthinae: Diplotaxini) from Chacoan Biogeographical Province is presented. now includes 92 species, including four new species described here: L. neoforcipata Cherman, species; foveata isotarsis and truncata female tarsalis Moser for first time. Six synonymies are proposed: denticulata Moser, 1918 a synonym denticeps Blanchard, 1851; ophtalmica Frey, 1973 bidenticeps 1919; mendozana incisa 1969 1918;...
The biodiversity of northern South American and Central Liogenys Guérin-Méneville, 1831 (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Melolonthinae: Diplotaxini) is reviewed. Four new species are described: L. clipeosetosa Cherman, species; genieri Smith & granadina schneiderae species. male quadridens (Fabricius, 1798) the female quadridentata Blanchard, 1851 described for first time. gebieni Moser, 1921 a junior subjective synonym macropelma Bates, 1887. northernmost record emended to Trinidad Tobago...
Abstract Hybosoridae comprise five extant subfamilies (Anaidinae, Ceratocanthinae, Hybosorinae, Liparochrinae and Pachyplectrinae). The phylogenetics of Anaidinae Ceratocanthinae have been analysed previously. This is the first thorough analysis with greater representation entire family, especially regarding Hybosorinae. present study tested monophyly Hybosoridae; relationships its among genera; ‘incertae sedis’ placement hybosorid genera Borrochrus Daimothoracodes Orubesa, currently...
Eugnosta Hübner, 1825 (Lepidoptera, Tortricidae, Tortricinae, Cochylini, Cochylina) is reported for the first time in Chile. Male and female adults, pupa, last-instar larva, galls of azapaensis Vargas & Moreira, sp. n., are described illustrated from Azapa Valley northern Atacama Desert. The larvae induce fusiform on shoots shrub Baccharis salicifolia (Ruiz Pav.) Pers. (Asteraceae). An assessment phylogenetic relationships E. with two congeneric species based mitochondrial DNA provided.
Male, female, pupa, and last-instar larva of Palaeomystella beckeri (Moreira Basilio) a new species from the Atlantic forest, southern Brazil, are described illustrated with aid optical scanning electron microscopy.Larvae induce galls on apical branches Tibouchina trichopoda (DC.)Baill.(Melastomataceae) within which pupation occurs.Gall description preliminary data life history also provided.
Liogenys Guérin-Méneville, 1831, the largest genus of Neotropical Diplotaxini, is now comprised 91 species. Fifteen new Brazilian species are described: L. acuta sp.n. ; amazonica angustitarsis clinocarinata crassopunctata hirsuta latoemarginata leviscutata ornativentris rodriguesi pruinosa quadrata susanalbertorum variabilis and vazdemelloi . Females described for first time acutidens Moser, moseri Frey sinuaticeps Moser. For macropelma Bates minuta lectotypes diagnoses provided. Two junior...
Among the predatory ladybird beetles (Coccinellidae: Coleoptera), members of Coccinellini, predators aphids and psyllids, stand out. Although beneficial status these has been acknowledged by biological control researchers, there are no keys or detailed studies on immature stages South American Coccinellidae, especially Coccinellini. We provide descriptions illustrations immatures adults major Coccinellini species in southern Brazil along with an identification key for fourth instar larvae...
Elachista synethes was recently recognized as an alien species in northern Chile, where its larvae mine the rescue grass Bromus catharticus (Poaceae). In order to provide necessary information allow field detection of E. during early ontogeny, we conducted a morphological reappraisal immature stages this leaf-miner moth, based on light and scanning electron microscopy, including first descriptions egg first-instar larva. This is report existence apodal larva for Treitschke. The legs prolegs...
Among the 26 Hybosorinae genera, seven are present exclusively in Neotropical region. However, from New World have been less studied. One new genus and species collected Brazil is herein described to this subfamily. The recognizable by following combination of characters: labium with semicircular mentum; mandibles lateral projection excavated, separated middle longitudinal carina, inner side sheltering labrum; antennae nine antenomeres; scutellar shield strong punctures at proximal half;...
Two new species, Pseudoazya mirabilis sp. nov. and massayo nov., both from Northeast Brazil, are described. is distributed in other localities of Brazil. The species Gordon, 1980 described based on the external morphology genitalia adults. genus distinguished Azya Mulsant, 1850, only Azyini, by prosternum with intercoxal process flat, not elevated, apex penis bifid.
