A new species of Macrelmis Motschulsky, 1859 (Macrelmis rodrigoi sp. nov.) is described and illustrated based on specimens found in mountainous areas the northern Roraima State, Brazil. Elmidae is one of the most diverse families aquatic beetles, with more than 1500 species in 151 genera. The Neotropical genus Portelmis formerly comprised five known from Central and northern South America, divided into two groups. Portelmis guianensis sp. nov. is a new member of the gurneyi–group. It was collected in Sinnamary, northern French Guiana.
