Phenolics from grapes and wines can play a role against oxidation development of atherosclerosis. Stilbenes have been shown to protect lipoproteins oxidative damage cancer chemopreventive activity. We describe method for the direct determination stilbenes in several red using high-performance liquid chromatography with UV detection. In survey 12 commercial south Brazil (Rio Grande del Sul), levels delta-viniferin are reported first time different varieties wines. Brazilian wine contains...

Epilepsy is the most common neurological disorder worldwide. Studies have shown that recurrent seizures may increase concentration of reactive oxygen species, which can lead to oxidative stress and neuronal damage. These result in substantial deleterious effects on an individual's health. Organic conventional grape juices are rich polyphenols, compounds with important antioxidant activity. However, these could differences their polyphenol content. The aim this study was investigate...

Supercritical fluid extraction has been widely employed in the of high purity substances. In this study, we used technology to obtain oil from seeds a variety grapes, vinification residues generated Southern region state Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. This work encompasses three varieties Vitis vinifera (Moscato Giallo, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon) two labrusca (Bordô e Isabel), harvested 2005 2006. We obtained highest content Bordô (15.40%) Merlot (14.66%), The biggest concentration...

Sparkling wines (SW) have a special biological ageing on lees that is performed using two distinct methods: in the bottle (Champenoise) or isobaric tanks (Charmat method). The objective of this study was to compare levels phenolic compounds, β-Glucosidase and antioxidant activity during lees, samples SW produced at industrial scale by both methods. has been constant over time, showing close relationship with all polyphenols studied (resveratrol, piceid, tyrosol, gallic, caffeic ferulic...

The effects of a white wine enriched with polyphenols (PEWW) from Chardonnay grapes and sparkling red (SRW) Pinot Noir were studied for the first time on early atherosclerosis in hamsters. Animals fed an atherogenic diet 12 weeks. They received by force-feeding PEWW, SRW, ethanol 12% (ETH), or water as control (mimicking moderate consumption ∼2 glasses per meal 70 kg human). Plasma cholesterol concentrations lower groups that consumed PEWW SRW accompanied increase ratio apo A-1/apo B....

Oxidative damages in hepatocytes may be caused by epilepsy and/or anticonvulsant drugs. Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological disorders, characterized recurrent seizures, which increase content reactive oxygen species. Organic and conventional grape juices are rich polyphenols, compounds with important antioxidant activity. There are many studies related to the antioxidant activity of grape products; however, they concern only purple and white varieties. Up now, there no reports on Goethe rose variety, either its or phenolic mineral quantification. Thus, purpose this study was evaluate in vitro vivo activity, as well quantify total compounds, ascorbic acid, content, a juice. The results obtained showed that juice is great polyphenol source, which contains catechin, epicatechin, procyanidins (B1, B2, B3, B4). Of...

Abstract The oil from leaves of Salvia guaranitica Benth. accessions southern Brazil obtained by hydrodistillation is reported. GC–MS analyses revealed sesquiterpene‐rich oils characterized high concentrations germacrene D, β ‐caryophyllene and δ ‐cadinene. Qualitative quantitative differences were observed among the accessions, enabling them to be assigned three clusters. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
