Vaccination strategies play a pivotal role in achieving broad and robust immune protection. With the advent of new technologies challenges posed by emerging infectious diseases such as SARS-CoV-2, evaluating efficacy homologous (matching tracks) heterologous (mixing paths) vaccination regimens is critical. This article explores mechanistic insights empirical evidence on benefits limitations these approaches.
IntroductionBeta-lactams (BL) are the most frequently reported drug allergy, but vast majority of patients found not to be genuinely allergic after evaluation. Few studies have investigated clinical predictors genuine BL and prevalence in hospitalized Chinese is unknown.MethodsPatients admitted a tertiary hospital Hong Kong (HK) were analyzed identify factors associated with presence allergy labels among patients. A combined cohort having completed investigation for suspected allergies...
BackgroundThe outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic facilitated a rapid transition to non–face-to-face models care across allergy services.ObjectiveTo describe outcomes use synchronous telemedicine for outpatient consultations in tertiary adult center.MethodsWe retrospectively reviewed all appointments during second month United Kingdom.ResultsA total 637 unique patients were booked between April 1 and 30, 2020; 91% new consultations. Most referrals (81.5%) related nondrug reactions. The overall...
Omega-5-gliadin (O5G) allergy, also known as wheat-dependent exercise-induced anaphylaxis, is commonly reported in the Western, but not Asian, populations. Although significant differences O5G allergy presentation across different populations are likely there have been no previous reports on this important topic. To report prevalence and characteristics of Hong Kong (HK) compared with United Kingdom (UK).O5G patients attending Queen Mary Hospital (HK cohort), Guy's St Thomas' Hospital, London...
BackgroundSeafood allergy (SA), including to shellfish (crustacean and mollusks) fish, is among the 4 most common food allergies causing anaphylaxis, but there are limited data showing SA clinical management in different countries.ObjectiveWe sought characterize a large cohort of patients with fish facilitate standardization future care for this increasingly allergic disease.MethodsWe performed retrospective, observational, noninterventional study from 945 2015 2019 7 hospitals United States...
In healthy individuals, leptin is produced from adipose tissue and secreted into the circulation to communicate energy balance status brain control fat metabolism. Corticotropin- Releasing Hormone (CRH) synthesized in hypothalamus regulates stress responses. Among many adipokines hormones that metabolism, CRH both curb appetite inhibit food intake. Despite numerous reports on properties function, little has been actually shown about their association environment. In this article, we...
Evaluation of the performance two rapid (15') antigen detection tests (RAT), BinaxNOW Influenza A&B and Coris Influ-A&B Respi-Strip for A(H1N1)v2009.Between July 2009 November 2009, 4105 respiratory specimens from patients with influenza-like illness attending seven public hospitals in Brussels were prospectively examined by immunochromatographic RAT, followed viral culture and/or specific real-time RT-PCR.Samples consisted predominantly nasopharyngeal aspirates (NPA-41%), (NPS-37%) throat...
To investigate the effect of leptin in childhood ITP, we measured plasma 39 children with acute after treatment and remission, 33 healthy age/BMI-matched controls. We also cultured ITP control peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) recombinant to assess its direct on pro/anti-inflammatory cytokine gene expression. A significant increase was observed active disease compared inverse correlation platelet count ITP. Leptin remained high IVIg, whereas steroid lowered below levels. In range....
Marathon is a running event in which athletes must cover distance of 42.195 km. In addition to participating marathons, marathoners have incorporated extensive into their lifestyle. the present study, we investigated effect long-term strenuous exercise form marathon on immune system. We collected peripheral blood samples from 37 male before/after race and age/sex/body mass index (BMI)-matched healthy sedentary controls. Hematological biochemical tests revealed race-induced leukocytosis...
Approximately 10% of the global population identify themselves as penicillin allergic, yet 90% are not truly allergic and could safely tolerate penicillin. There is no simple way to these people. Current in vitro diagnostics include specific immunoglobulin E (with a sensitivity 19% specificity 97%) basophil activation testing (BAT) with undefined specificity. PubMed EMBASE searched from inception 03/05/2022 for original studies evaluating performance characteristics test allergy adults....
Background: Approximately 10% of the global population identify themselves as penicillin allergic, yet 90% are not truly allergic and could safely tolerate penicillin. There is no simple way to these people. Current in vitro diagnostics include specific immunoglobulin E, sIgE (with a sensitivity 19% specificity 97%) basophil activation testing (BAT) with undefined specificity. Objective: To define BAT diagnosis allergy Methods: PubMed EMBASE searched from inception 04/02/2023 for original...
