Pollen immunotherapy is effective in selected patients with IgE-mediated seasonal allergic rhinitis, although it questionable whether there long-term benefit after the discontinuation of treatment.
Abstract T regulatory cells and IL-10 have been implicated in the mechanism of immunotherapy patients with systemic anaphylaxis following bee stings. We studied role induction clinical, cellular, humoral tolerance during for local mucosal allergy subjects seasonal pollinosis. Local responses serum Ab concentrations were measured before/after a double-blind trial grass pollen (Phleum pratense, Phl P) immunotherapy. observed increases mRNA-positive nasal mucosa after 2 years immunotherapy, but...
Summary This guidance for the management of patients with chronic urticaria and angioedema has been prepared by Standards Care Committee British Society Allergy Clinical Immunology ( BSACI ). The guideline is based on evidence as well expert opinion aimed at both adult physicians paediatricians practising in allergy. recommendations are graded. During development these guidelines, all members were included consultation process using a Web‐based system. Their comments suggestions carefully...
Allergen immunotherapy (AIT) is an effective treatment for allergic rhinoconjunctivitis (AR) with or without asthma. It important to note that due the complex interaction between patient, allergy triggers, symptomatology and vaccines used AIT, some patients do not respond optimally treatment. Furthermore, there are no validated generally accepted candidate biomarkers predictive of clinical response AIT. Clinical management receiving AIT efficacy in randomised controlled trials drug...
Discovered and described 40 years ago, non-specific lipid transfer proteins (nsLTP) are present in many plant species play an important role protecting plants from stressors such as heat or drought. In the last 20 years, sensitization to nsLTP consequent reactions foods has become increasing concern. The aim of this paper is review evidence for structure function allergens, cross-reactivity, sensitization, epidemiology allergy.A Task Force, supported by European Academy Allergy & Clinical...
A series of 519 non-diabetic subjects had vibration thresholds at three points measured using a biothesiometer. Thresholds appeared to be log normally distributed and increased with age. Centile charts this relation were derived from the data giving range for normal thresholds. The biothesiometer provides quick reliable assessment thresholds, which when related centile gives an objective measure progress diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
Atopic asthma is characterized by chronic inflammation of the bronchial mucosa in which eosinophil- and immunoglobulin E (IgE)–dependent mechanisms are believed to be prominent. Therefore, specific proeosinophilic mediators such as interleukin (IL)-5 essential cofactors for IgE switching B-lymphocytes IL-4 could play a pivotal role asthma. However, exact that individual inflammatory development disease humans still unknown. Using semiquantitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain...
Summary Allergic rhinitis (AR) affects more than 20% of the population in United Kingdom and western Europe represents a major cause morbidity that includes interference with usual daily activities impairment sleep quality. This guidance prepared by Standards Care Committee (SOCC) British Society for Allergy Clinical Immunology (BSACI) is management AR patients have failed to achieve adequate relief symptoms despite treatment intranasal corticosteroids and/or antihistamines. The guideline...
Summary Peanut nut and tree allergy are characterised by IgE mediated reactions to proteins. Nut is a global disease. Limited epidemiological data suggest varying prevalence in different geographical areas. Primary affects over 2% of children 0.5% adults the UK. Infants with severe eczema and/or egg have higher risk peanut allergy. presents most commonly first five years life, often after known ingestion typical rapid onset IgE‐mediated symptoms. The clinical diagnosis primary can be made...
Nonspecific lipid transfer proteins (nsLTPs) represent a major cause of systemic food allergic reactions in the Mediterranean area. This study investigate hierarchical patterns and cluster relationships IgE sensitization to different nsLTPs, relationship clinical allergy large Italian cohort.A total 568 nsLTP-positive subjects after ImmunoCAP-ISAC microarray analysis with Ara h 9, Art v 3, Cor 8, Jug r Pla Pru p 3 Tri 14 allergens were studied. inhibition experiments carried out mugwort...
Pollen food syndrome (PFS) is a highly prevalent allergy affecting pollen-sensitized children and adults. Sufferers experience allergic symptoms when consuming raw plant foods, due to the homology between pollen allergens unstable proteins in these foods. The triggers involved can vary depending on sensitization, which turn affected by geographical location. British Society of Allergy Clinical Immunology (BSACI) Standards Care Committee (SOCC) identified need develop guideline for diagnosis...
The role of inhaled and swallowed aeroallergens in treatment outcomes adult patients with eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is unclear. We hypothesized that the pollen season contributes to failure 6-food elimination diet (SFED) EoE.We compared EoE who underwent SFED during vs outside season. Consecutive skin prick test (SPT) for birch grass were included. Individual sensitization count data analyzed define whether each patient had been assessed or after SFED. All active (≥15...
ABSTRACT Background Alarmin cytokine IL‐25 promotes type 2 inflammatory responses in disorders such as asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) known targets include ILC2 Th2 cells. However, other cellular for remain poorly defined. Objective To investigate induction expression of receptor (IL‐17RB) by B cells evaluate responsiveness IL‐17RB‐expressing to vitro. Methods IL‐17RB expression, regulation function on were evaluated peripheral blood‐derived flow cytometry...
Summary Grass pollen immunotherapy is the only treatment for hayfever that both effective and confers long‐term benefit. Immunotherapy may act by altering local nasal mucosal T helper type 2 (Th2) to 1 (Th1) cytokine balance either down‐regulation and/or immune deviation of T‐lymphocyte responses. There controversy as whether these changes are detectable in peripheral blood. We therefore examined T‐cell responses allergen exposure same subjects before after immunotherapy. In a double‐blind...
