The noted Anglo-Jewish historian Cecil Roth, in a seldom quoted but highly provocative essay, argued some forty years ago that medieval European Christendom conceived of the Jew not as an infidel who had failed to perceive truth Christianity rather deliberate unbeliever, one knew refused accept its consequences. Only if Jews first-century Palestine recognized Jesus their redeemer, Roth claimed, could churchmen have sought proof for Christian beliefs Talmud and Midrash; only people deemed...
The national interest in formal links between university classroom education and community service raises two important issues for college teaching. The first is definitional. What learning--learning that combines public with related academic work--and what distinguishes it from internships, semesters abroad, laboratories? The second issue pedagogical. Is there reason to believe the learning aspects of justify entry colleges universities into public-service sector? An undergraduate mass...
The New Testament accounts of Jesus' crucifixion have stood at the bedrock Christianity since it's birth in 1st century, and they remain among essential foundations Western culture 21st. These Gospel narratives Passion - arrest, trial, scourging, execution Jesus cast Jews as those responsible, directly indirectly, for death their Messiah son God. Cohen tracks image Jew murderer God from its origins to most recent expressions. A great deal has been written about Christian anti-Semitism,...
Abstract Journalism education?s historical origins, intellectual tradition and media constituency have directed the field away from what could be a more lively engagement with liberal arts, which are accepted in principle at least by academy industry as valuable foundation for professional journalism education. Yet students increasingly disengaged democratic process, signaling crucial need promoting greater civic engagement. We urge broader educational commitment to professionalism of...
We present a phenomenological one-parameter scaling equation of state that accurately represents osmotic pressures neutral flexible polymers in good solvents from the dilute through semidilute regime. The comprises sum scaled van't Hoff and des Cloizeaux terms including fitted parameter α, "crossover index", which encapsulates all chemical specificity determines relevant prefactors. Strikingly different values α are found for two very systems poly(ethyleneglycol)/water (PEG)...
We present four elements we believe are key to providing a comprehensive and sustainable support for research software engineering: development, community, training, policy. also show how the wider developer community can learn from, engage with, these activities.
We report on measurements of ionospheric plasma dynamics conducted at the Arecibo Observatory between 20:00 and 24:00 local time (LT) December 25 26, 2004 using 430 MHz incoherent scatter radar (ISR). For interpretive purposes these are supported by data from two nearby ionosondes Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites. The ISR detected different behaviors during vertical‐transmission periods consecutive, magnetically quiet nights. On night ionosphere descended smoothly spread F...
Demand for specialist High Performance Computing (HPC) skills is growing rapidly. To support this demand, we need to improve the opportunities development. Existing approaches HPC training often involve and experience over a number of years on-the-job training. However, already face shortage that can't be addressed with current provisions. Clear well-structured "training pathways" can offer an important means helping learners understand what they learn, in order, so develop need. Development...
Genospheres are cationic lipid−nucleic acid nanoparticles prepared by the assembly of lipids and nucleic acids from an aqueous/organic liquid monophase that independently dissolves components, where resultant particles homogeneously sized (70−110 nm), with efficiently incorporated protected DNA. In present study, we demonstrate pH-dependent modulation Genosphere surface charge using pH-titratable lipids. By incorporation titratable anionic or imidazole headgroups, neutral at pH were produced...
