Resistance to 5-Fluorouracil chemotherapy is a major cause of therapeutic failure in colon cancer cure. Development combined therapies constitutes an effective strategy inhibit cells and prevent the emergence drug resistance. For this purpose, we investigated anti-tumoral effect thirteen phenolic compounds, from Tunisian quince Cydonia oblonga Miller, alone or 5-FU, on human 5-FU-resistant LS174-R comparison parental cells. Our results showed that only Kaempferol was able chemo-sensitize...

Lebein, is an heterodimeric disintegrin isolated from Macrovipera lebetina snake venom that was previously characterized as inhibitor of ADP-induced platelet aggregation. In this study, we investigated the effect Lebein on p53-dependent growth human colon adenocarcinoma cell lines. We found significantly inhibited LS174 (p53wt), HCT116 and HT29 (p53mut) cancer viability by inducing cycle arrest through modulation expression levels tumor suppression factor p53, regulating proteins cyclin D1,...

We report the chemical composition and anti- Leishmania antioxidant activity of Artemisia campestris L. herba - alba Asso. essential oils (EOs). Our results showed that these extracts exhibit different activities according to used assay. The radical scavenging effects determined by DPPH assay were IC 50 = 3.3 mg/mL 9.1 for oils, respectively. However, both ferric-reducing power (FRAP) assay, in same range (2.3 2.97 mg eq EDTA/g EO, resp.), while oil highest chelating Fe 2+ ions (27.48 mM )....

Polyphenols, flavonoids and condensed tannins contents, as well the antioxidant activity of ethanolic aqueous extracts obtained from aerial parts 10 wild Tunisian plants, have been determined. Extracts showed appreciable levels polyphenols flavonoids, which reached 215.16 mg GAE g-1 DW in Lavandula stoechas extract, 49.12 RE Thapsia garganica extract. The majority tested exhibited low total content, except for Rhus tripartitum Periploca laevigata. tests great activity, especially R....

Melanoma, the most threatening form of skin cancer, has a very poor prognosis and is characterized by its invasive chemoresistant properties. Despite recent promising news from field immunotherapy, there an urgent need for new therapeutic approaches that are free resistance mechanisms side effects. Anti-neoplasic properties have been highlighted different disintegrins snake venom including Lebein; however, exact effect Lebein on melanoma not yet defined. In this study, we showed blocks cell...

We have constructed a cDNA library from venom glands of the scorpion Buthus occitanus tunetanus and cloned DNA sequence that encodes an α‐toxin. This clone was efficiently expressed in Escherichia coli as fusion protein with two Ig‐binding (Z) domains A Staphylococcus aureus. After CNBr treatment HPLC purification, we obtained approximately 1 mg recombinant α‐toxin/I bacterial culture. The toxin, called Bot XIV, displays no toxicity towards mammals but is active insects shown by its...

Cerastotin, a thrombin‐like enzyme from the venom of desert viper Cerastes cerastes , has been purified by gel filtration on Sephadex G‐75 and two ion‐exchange chromatographies Mono S columns. It is neutral glycoprotein (pI = 6.6), present as single polypeptide chain 40 kDa. Its N‐terminal sequence shows strong similarity with those other enzymes snake venoms. The venoms of Viperidae snakes contain numerous serine proteinases that have been recognized to possess one or more the essential activities thrombin on fibrinogen and platelets. Among them, a platelet proaggregant protein, cerastocytin, has isolated from venom Tunisian viper Cerastes cerastes.
