Combination therapy using natural antioxidants to manage diabetes mellitus and its complications is an emerging trend. The aim of this study was investigate the changes promoted by treatment streptozotocin (STZ)-diabetic rats with yoghurt enriched bioactives curcumin, lycopene, or bixin (the latter two being carotenoids). Antioxidants were administered individually, as mixtures, biomarkers metabolic oxidative disturbances, particularly those associated cardiovascular risk, assessed....

Knowing that curcumin has low bioavailability when administered orally, and piperine bioenhancer activity by inhibition of hepatic intestinal biotransformation processes, the aim this study was to investigate antidiabetic antioxidant activities (90 mg/kg) (20 or 40 mg/kg), alone co-administered, incorporated in yoghurt, streptozotocin (STZ)-diabetic rats. The treatment for 45 days STZ-diabetic rats with curcumin-enriched yoghurt improved all parameters altered experimental model diabetes:...

Combination of current antidiabetic agents with natural antioxidants to manage diabetes mellitus and its complications has appeared as an emerging trend. Curcumin, a yellow pigment isolated from Curcuma longa rhizomes, gained attention due beneficial effects in controlling the disturbances observed mellitus. The purpose this study was investigate if yoghurt enriched curcumin metformin, individually or mixtures, ameliorates physiometabolic parameters, glycoxidative stress biomarkers,...

Insulin with natural antioxidants is emerging as a combination treatment for diabetes mellitus that attempts to exert effective glycemic control without adverse effects. The present study aimed investigate the additive effects on metabolic disturbances, oxidative damage, and antioxidant defenses in streptozotocin‐diabetic rats treated curcumin reduced insulin dose. best results were obtained of diabetic 4‐U/day insulin; however, glycemia levels these lower than those normal rats, indicating...

Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is associated with several skeletal alterations, particularly in conditions of poor glycaemic control. Insulin therapy the major conservative treatment for T1DM; however, effects this hormone on bone markers T1DM rats are limited, and regulatory mechanisms remain elusive. Therefore, evaluation molecular non-molecular parameters a chronic animal model T1DM-induced loss, treated without insulin, may help elucidating insulin mechanisms. Male Wistar were assigned...

Advances in the knowledge of mechanisms controlling protein breakdown skeletal muscles have allowed exploration new options for treating muscle-wasting conditions. Pentoxifylline (PTX), a nonselective phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitor, attenuates loss muscle mass during catabolic conditions, mainly via inhibiting breakdown. The aim this study was to explore by which PTX inhibits proteolysis soleus and extensor digitorum longus (EDL) streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. levels atrogin-1 RING...

Diabetes mellitus is a disease characterized by persistent hyperglycemia, which may lead to brain tissue damage due oxidative stress and also contributes neuronal death changes in synaptic transmission. This study evaluated the effect of use antioxidants supplementation on myosins expression levels brains chronic diabetic rats induced streptozotocin.
