A new extension for the applied-element method structural analysis is introduced. In this method, structure modeled as an assembly of elements made by dividing virtually. This paper first introduces element formulation method. Next, effects size and arrangement are discussed, finally, accuracy proposed in a nonlinear material case verified studying behavior RC structures under cyclic loading. For caused elements, it shown that accurate results stresses strains can be obtained if small used....
In this article, an algorithm for detecting subsurface voids under the road from ground penetrating radar images is proposed. A multichannel system mounted on vehicle enables dense and highspeed monitoring. The novelty of a unique ElectroMagnetic simulation method state-of-the-art deep learning technique to consider three-dimensional (3-D) reflection patterns voids. To train models, 3-D were reproduced by 2-D finite difference time domain drastically reduce calculation cost. Hyperboloid...
A rapid mapping of landslides following a disaster is important for coordinating emergency response and limiting rescue delays. synthetic aperture radar (SAR) can provide solution even in harsh weather at night, due to its independence light, quick response, no contact broad coverage. This study aimed conduct comprehensive exploration on the intensity coherence information three Advanced Land Observing Satellite-2 (ALOS-2) SAR images, massive landslide pixel level, order reference future...
Reinforced concrete (RC) frames are an integral part of modern construction as they resist both gravity and lateral loads in beams columns. However, the methodologies RC vulnerable to non-engineering defects, particularly developing countries. The most common defect occurs due improper lap splice, which can compromise structural integrity. This research demonstrates easy, low-cost, verifiable experimental technique incorporating micro-concrete evaluate seismic performance a completely...
Abstract Unreinforced masonry (URM) buildings are prone to significant damage when subjected ground motion. Some strengthening methods have been proposed increase the seismic capacity. However, widespread adoption of these faces various challenges, including economic constraints experienced by common people in developing countries, complexity implementation, efficiency, and safety each technique. This paper introduces a new retrofitting method fiber-reinforced paint using fiberglass as...
Abstract The use of low-compressive-strength concrete hollow blocks (CHB) as construction material in developing countries presents significant challenges to earthquake resilience. Weak CHBs are inherently vulnerable earthquakes, not just at the structural level (in-plane, out-of-plane wall collapses, and roof failures), but also individual masonry unit level. This vulnerability increases risk failures during posing a threat safety building occupants. study investigates effectiveness...
Abstract Shaking table tests were conducted to investigate the response of rectangular wooden blocks and block assemblies various sizes slenderness harmonic earthquake base excitation. The shaking followed by an analytical a numerical study single assemblies. was aimed at establishing criteria for initiation rocking overturning in motion consisted solving numerically differential equations rigid on foundation. study, course which both examined, implemented means Distinct Element Method...
A new method for analyzing the fracture of concrete structures is proposed in which considered a granular assembly. Because complex, extremely heterogeneous material, it difficult to analyze it's failure properties by Finite Element Method (FEM) homogeneous, continuous medium. We have developed Modified Distinct (MDEM) that can be applied problems structures. In MDEM respective major constituents concrete, gravel and mortar, are represented as circular particle elements nonlinear springs,...
This paper introduces a technically feasible and economically affordable retrofitting option for seismically vulnerable masonry structures in developing countries using polypropylene bands (PP-bands). The results of the basic material tests shake table on building models show that PP-band technique can enhance safety both existing new buildings, even during severe ground motions, instance an earthquake with Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) seismic intensity 7. Therefore, proposed method is...
In the current research work, an attempt is made to increase seismic capacity of unreinforced masonry (URM) structures by proposing a new composite material which can improve shear strength and deformation URM wall systems. Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) having high tensile stiffness significantly in-plane out-of-plane walls, but, inherently, FRP strengthened systems exhibit brittle failure under extreme loading. Polypropylene (PP-band) low cost with sufficient ductility capacity. Keeping in...
After the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, Japanese government identified lack of proficiency in language as one characteristic foreigners that should be considered disaster prevention planning. This article seeks to understand how a local affects information gathering behavior by using results questionnaire survey conducted after Earthquake. Respondents were categorized based on their and English abilities. Their media mode, preferences, importance, information-gathering difficulties also...
The extended distinct‐element method (EDEM) is used to construct models of multi‐degrees‐of‐freedom systems for particles concrete frames and conduct a series numerical simulations in which the collapsed due seismic forces. When frame collapses, it reduced pile debris. If debris rejoined form frame, original shape restored; i.e., prior collapse considered be an assembled body EDEM analyzing discontinuous bodies, but here we report on analysis contain elements body. For convenience, assumed...
Abstract The impact of income disparity on vulnerability and information collection during the 2011 Thai Flood was examined through a survey investigation. Lower‐income respondents were found to have been more likely be inundated by flood than higher‐income because location their residences, lower‐income whose residences flooded also less evacuated. Television widely used, regardless level, but tended utilise lower‐technology modes, such as radios loudspeakers, in contrast Internet‐based...
