Abstract Background Advancing age is a major risk factor for respiratory viral infections. The infections are often prolonged and difficult to resolve resulting hospitalizations mortality. recent COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted this as elderly subjects have emerged vulnerable populations that display increased susceptibility severity SARS-CoV-2. There an urgent need identify the probable mechanisms underlying protect against future outbreaks of such nature. Innate immunity first line...

Since the start of COVID-19 pandemic, in a short span 3 years, vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 has resulted end pandemic. Patients with inborn errors immunity (IEI) are at an increased risk for infection; however, serious illnesses and mortality, especially primary antibody deficiencies (PADs), have been lower than expected other high-risk groups. This suggests that PAD patients may mount reasonable effective response to vaccine. Several studies published regarding responses, contradictory...

Abstract Mycobacterium bovis Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) is the primary treatment for non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC), known to stimulate inflammatory cytokines, notably interferon (IFN)-γ. We observed that prolonged IFN-γ exposure fosters adaptive resistance in recurrent tumors, aiding immune evasion and tumor proliferation. identify HLA-E NKG2A, part of a novel NK T cell checkpoint pathway, as key mediators BCG-unresponsive NMIBC. enhances PD-L1 expression with an enrichment...

Whole-genome sequencing can be used to better understand and assess the functional abilities of microorganisms isolated from spacecraft hardware associated surfaces for planetary protection (PP) purposes. We sequenced 191 isolates 6 spaceflight missions with PP requirements identified them using Illumina-based methods matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry.

Abstract Mycobacterium bovis Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG), the first-line treatment for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC), promotes production of inflammatory cytokines, particularly interferon (IFN)-γ. Prolonged inflammation and IFN-γ exposure are known to cause an adaptive immune response, enabling escape proliferation by tumor cells. We investigated HLA-E NKG2A, a novel T NK cell checkpoint pathway, as driver resistance in BCG unresponsive NMIBC. observed ubiquitous all...
