Abstract The rhizosphere is a niche surrounding plant roots, where soluble and volatile molecules mediate signaling between plants the associated microbiota. preferred lifestyle of soil microorganisms in form biofilms. However, less known about whether root organic compounds (rVOCs) can influence biofilms beyond 2–10 mm zone influenced by exudates. We report that rVOCs shift microbiome composition growth dynamics complex This evolutionarily conserved from ferns to higher plants. Methyl...

Weight loss is the most effective treatment for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). There evidence that Mediterranean diets rich in unsaturated acids and fiber have beneficial effects on weight homeostasis metabolic risk factors individuals with NAFLD. Studies also shown higher circulating concentrations of pentadecanoic acid (C15:0) are associated lower To examine a Mediterranean-like, culturally contextualized Asian diet acids, or without C15:0 supplementation, Chinese females In...

Fragrant edible sesame oil is popular for its unique aroma. The aroma of determined by volatile organic compound (VOC) profile. Sesame oils produced different techniques could have VOC profiles. In addition, blending fragrant with refined also alter the profile final product. Current practices in analysis, such as sensory evaluation and gas chromatography (GC), still face many restraints. Hence, there a need alternatives. We present novel 14-unit multiplexed paper-based colorimetric sensor...

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are carcinogenic and mutagenic compounds that can be introduced to edible oil via the environment or through solvent extraction processes. In this proof-of-principle study, we report a rapid method quantify benzo[a]pyrene (B(a)P) in refined rapeseed maize samples obtained directly from refinery. Oil were spiked with different B(a)P concentrations, their fluorescence excitation emission matrix (EEM) data acquired. Principal component analysis (PCA)...

We have investigated the application of narrow-band intracavity spectroscopy for high throughput characterization and detection reaction products in-situ. An external cavity diode laser (ECDL), tunable from 810-890 nm, is used to measure varying concentrations a range compounds in solution. A linear calibration curve parts per billion (ppb) corresponding 17 nM has been achieved, levels not detectable with UV/VIS spectrometers. By replacing grating reflective mirror, trillion (ppt)...

Two intracavity laser absorption techniques for ultralow concentration detection of chemicals in solution are compared. The first consists a diode grating extended cavity, which produces linear calibration curve parts 109 (ppb) concentrations corresponding to 17 nM. By replacing the with highly reflective mirror, 1012 (ppt) is achieved, corresponds 340 pM. We report, our knowledge time, ppt analyte liquid demonstrating good agreement between theory and experiment.

Classification of NIR spectra is a common problem in chemometrics. An ideal classification model should not only classify into the known defined classes but also detect that do belong to any classes. On top this, perform well on with unwanted source variation (batch effects) obtained under different conditions. more distinct (different edible oils) relatively easier than less (purities oils). It crucial eliminate batch effects while keeping signal separates effectively. conditions often...
