Although lumen-apposing metal stents (LAMS) are increasingly being used for drainage of pancreatic fluid collections (PFC), their advantage over plastic is unclear. In this retrospective case-control study, 20 patients who underwent PFC using LAMS were matched with 40 treated according to type (walled-off necrosis [WON] vs pseudocyst) and procedural technique (conventional multi-gate). Main outcome measures treatment success, reintervention, clinical stent-related adverse events, duration,...

Abstract INTRODUCTION The intricate association between tobacco smoking and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) presents diverse effects on Ulcerative Colitis (UC) Crohn’s (CD). Our study delves into this nuanced interplay, aiming to investigate the impact of hospital outcomes among IBD patients using extensive national inpatient data. METHODS Leveraging National Inpatient Sample (2016 2018) employing ICD-10 codes for identification, we categorized based use. Outcomes included length stay...

Acid suppression therapy in critically ill patients significantly reduces the incidence of stress ulceration and gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding; however, recent studies suggest that proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) increase risk pneumonia. We wanted to test hypothesis acid suppressive promotes alteration bacterial flora GI tract leads colonization upper airway with pathogenic species, potentially forming biological basis for observed increased pneumonia these patients.
