ABSTRACT Gram-negative bacilli with acquired metallo-β-lactamase (MBL) production have been increasingly reported in some countries, necessitating their detection. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance Hodge test and those imipenem (IPM)-EDTA, ceftazidime (CAZ)-mercaptopropionic acid (MPA), CAZ-sodium mercaptoacetic (SMA) double-disk synergy tests (DDSTs). efficiencies testing CAZ-resistant IPM-nonsusceptible isolates were also compared. Strains used for evaluation known...

ABSTRACT Rapid detection of metallo-β-lactamase (MBL)-producing gram-negative bacilli is necessary to prevent their dissemination. The method using a disk with imipenem plus 750 μg EDTA differentiated all MBL-producing pseudomonads, and the sensitivity specificity for acinetobacters were 95.7 91.0%, respectively. imipenem-EDTA disks stable 12 16 weeks at 4 −20°C,

ABSTRACT Carbapenem resistance mediated by acquired carbapenemase genes has been increasingly reported, particularly for clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter spp. Of 1,234 nonduplicate carbapenem-resistant isolated at a tertiary-care hospital in Seoul, Korea, 211 (17%) were positive metallo-β-lactamase (MBL). these, 204 (96%) had either the bla IMP-1 or VIM-2 allele. In addition, seven baumannii found to have novel MBL gene, which was designated SIM-1 . The protein...

Toxigenic strains of Clostridium difficile have been reported to produce both toxins A and B nearly always, nontoxigenic neither these toxins. Recent studies indicate that it is not always true. We established a PCR assay differentiate toxin A-negative, B-positive (toxin A-, B+) from toxin-positive A+, toxin-negative B-) as an alternative cell culture enzyme-linked immunosorbent (ELISA). By using the primer set NK11 NK9 derived repeating sequences gene, shorter segment (ca. 700 bp) was...

ABSTRACT We investigated the phenotypic and genetic properties of metallo-β-lactamase-producing Pseudomonas isolates collected at a tertiary-care hospital in Korea since 1995. The prevalence imipenem resistance among aeruginosa reached 16% 1997, when 9% resistant organisms were found to produce VIM-2 β-lactamase, class B enzyme previously only P. from Europe. VIM-2-producing putida also detected. Resistance was transferable both these species PAO4089Rp by filter mating, although determinant...

Abstract We determined the occurrence of acquired metallo-β-lactamase (MBL)–producing bacteria in Korean hospitals. Among isolates nonsusceptible to imipenem that were collected from 28 hospitals 2000 2001, 44 (11.4%) 387 Pseudomonas spp. and 38 (14.2%) 267 Acinetobacter infections produced MBL had alleles blaVIM-2 or blaIMP-1. Purpose:The increasing prevalence of antimicrobial resistant bacteria has become a serious worldwide problem. The aim this study was to analyze resistance data generated in 2009 by hospitals and commercial laboratories participating the Korean Nationwide Surveillance Antimicrobial Resistance program.Materials Methods: Susceptibility were collected from 24 two laboratories. In analysis, did not include intermediate susceptibility.Duplicate isolates excluded analysis hospital isolates, but...

In recent years, there have been increasing reports of KPC-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae in Korea. The modified Hodge test can be used as a phenotypic screening for class A carbapenamase (CAC)-producing clinical isolates; however, it does not distinguish between carbapenemase types. confirmation type CAC is important to ensure optimal therapy and prevent transmission. This study applied novel multiplex PCR assay detect differentiate genes single reaction. Four primer pairs were designed...

ABSTRACT In November 2010, NDM-1-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae (NDMKP) was identified for the first time in South Korea from four patients with no history of traveling abroad who stayed 21 to 205 days a tertiary care hospital. All were sequence type (ST) 340 and had nearly identical XbaI pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) patterns. The bla NDM-1 -carrying plasmids IncN group, sizes ranging 50 200 kb. These findings suggest that NDMKP already been introduced into before this clustering found.

A plasmidic beta-lactamase which hydrolyzed cephamycins was first detected and reported in 1989. At that time its description restricted to phenotypic characteristics. We analyzed nucleotide sequence of gene explored it genetic relationship with other bla genes. The deduced amino acid the blaCMY-1 product compared those known cephamycinases chromosomal AmpC beta-lactamases. results indicate CMY-1 is closest MOX-1 among Pseudomonas aeruginosa cephalosporinases. conclude described up now may...

PER-1, an extended-spectrum beta-lactamase, has been reported only in Europe. We detected PER-1 53 of 97 acinetobacters Korea, mainly the sputum intensive care unit patients. Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis analysis suggested that clonal spread had occurred. Only PCR reliably producers. producers may also exist other Asian countries.
