A rare African ancestry-specific germline deletion variant in HOXB13 (X285K, rs77179853) was recently reported Martinican men with early-onset prostate cancer. Given the role of variation cancer, we investigated association between X285K and cancer risk a large sample 22 361 ancestry men, including 11 688 cases. The allele present only West ancestry, an frequency that ranged from 0.40% Ghana 0.31% Nigeria to 0% Uganda South Africa, range frequencies admixed North America Europe (0-0.26%)....

There is a need for standardized, efficient, and practical sampling methods to support large population-based studies of the internal external epithelial microbiomes bovine udder. The primary objective this study was evaluate different devices isolation microbial DNA originating from teat epithelium. Secondary objectives were survey compare diversity canal using amplicon shotgun metagenomic sequencing approaches. To address these objectives, we enrolled convenience sample 24 Holstein dairy...

Androgenetic alopecia is a highly heritable trait. However, much of our understanding about the genetics male pattern baldness comes from individuals European descent. Here, we examined dataset comprising 2,136 men Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, and South Africa that were genotyped using MADCaP Array. We first tested how genetic predictions generalize Europe to found polygenic scores GWAS yielded AUC statistics ranged 0.513 0.546, indicating generalized poorly African populations. Subsequently,...

Abstract Patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) typically suffer from frequent and severe bacterial infections. Although it is well known that neutrophils are critical innate immune cells facilitating the early defense, underlying phenotypical functional changes in during CLL remain largely elusive. Using a murine adoptive transfer model of CLL, we demonstrate aggravated burden CLL-bearing mice upon urinary tract infection uropathogenic Escherichia coli. Bioinformatic analyses...

Abstract Hybridization is a common occurrence in natural populations, and introgression major source of genetic variation. Despite the evolutionary importance adaptive introgression, classical population genetics theory does not take into account hybrid fitness effects. Specifically, heterosis (i.e. vigor) Dobzhansky–Muller incompatibilities influence fates introgressed alleles. Here, we explicitly for polygenic, unlinked effects when tracking rare marker allele. These quickly decay over...

Abstract Some of recently discovered in human gut microbiome highly divergent crAssphages were reported to use multiple genetic codes. Opal or amber stop codon reassignments present parts the genomes, while standard code was used remaining genome sections. Essentially, phage genomes divided into distinct blocks where one another used. We have developed a tool, Mgcod, that identifies with specific codes and annotates protein-coding regions. Mgcod scan large set metagenomic contigs. As result,...

Abstract Many lizard species face extinction due to worldwide climate change. The Guatemalan Beaded Lizard, Heloderma charlesbogerti, is a member of the Family Helodermatidae that may be particularly imperiled; fewer than 600 mature individuals are believed persist in wild. In addition, H. charlesbogerti lizards phenotypically remarkable. They large size, charismatically patterned, and possess venomous bite. Here, we report draft genome Lizard using DNA from wild-caught individual. assembled...

Abstract Androgenetic alopecia is a highly heritable trait. However, much of our understanding about the genetics male pattern baldness comes from individuals European descent. Here, we examined novel dataset comprising 2,136 men Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, and South Africa that were genotyped using custom array. We first tested how genetic predictions generalize Europe to Africa, finding polygenic scores GWAS yielded AUC statistics ranged 0.513 0.546, indicating in African populations...

Following introgression, Neanderthal DNA was initially purged from non-African genomes, but the evolutionary fate of remaining introgressed has not been explored yet. To fill this gap, we analyzed 30,780 admixed genomes with African-like ancestry All Us research program, in which alleles encountered novel genetic backgrounds during last 15 generations. Observed amounts approximately match expectations based on proportions, suggesting neutral evolution. Nevertheless, identified genomic...
