Abstract Bacterial pneumonia is a common and serious clinical entity. Alveolar epithelial cells alveolar macrophages are the first line of defense in innate immunity against bacterial pathogens. Epithelial known to release chemokines/cytokines that recruit activate phagocytic cells. However, signals sent from back lung remain largely unexplored. We found LPS, well-recognized stimulator derived gram-negative (G−) bacteria, rapidly robustly induces secretion macrophage-derived extracellular...

Rationale: In addition to rare genetic variants and the MUC5B locus, common contribute idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) risk. The predictive power of outside locus for IPF interstitial lung abnormalities (ILAs) is unknown. Objectives: We tested value polygenic risk scores (PRSs) with without region on IPF, ILA, ILA progression. Methods: developed PRSs that included (PRS-M5B) excluded (PRS-NO-M5B) (500-kb window around rs35705950-T) using an genome-wide association study. assessed PRS...

Background The clinical impact of interstitial lung abnormalities (ILAs) on poor prognosis has been reported in many studies, but risk stratification ILA will contribute to practice. Purpose To investigate the association traction bronchiectasis/bronchiolectasis index (TBI) with mortality and outcomes individuals by using COPDGene cohort. Materials Methods This study was a secondary analysis prospectively collected data. Chest CT scans participants for were evaluated compared without from...

Although interstitial lung abnormalities (ILA), specific patterns of incidentally-detected abnormal density on computed tomography, have been associated with function and increased mortality, it is unclear if a subset incidental disease (ILD) accounts for these adverse consequences.

A current hypothesis for obstructive sleep apnea states that 1) negative airway pressure during inspiration can collapse the pharyngeal airway, and 2) neural control of airway-dilating muscles is important in preventing this collapse. To test we performed nasal mask occlusions to increase pressures eight normal five micrognathic infants. Both groups developed midinspiratory obstruction, but obstruction was more frequent infants varied some with state. The usually reopened subsequent...

Background Interstitial lung abnormalities (ILA) share many features with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis; however, it is not known if ILA are associated decreased mean telomere length (MTL). Methods Telomere was measured quantitative PCR in the Genetic Epidemiology of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPDGene) and Age Gene/Environment Susceptibility Reykjavik (AGES-Reykjavik) cohorts Southern blot analysis used Framingham Heart Study (FHS). Abstract Background Few cohorts have study populations large enough to conduct molecular analysis of ex vivo lung tissue for genomic analyses. Transcriptome imputation is a non-invasive alternative with many potential applications. We present novel transcriptome-imputation method called the Lung Gene Expression and Network Imputation Engine ( LungGENIE ) that uses principal components from blood gene-expression levels in linear regression model predict tissue-specific gene-expression....

Melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5 (MDA-5) autoimmunity has been increasingly recognized in association with interstitial lung disease (ILD), particularly the context of viral infections. While MDA-5 ILD is typically rapidly progressive high mortality, emerging evidence suggests that COVID-19 may induce a distinct, more indolent phenotype. We report two cases following infection slowly course. In Case 1, an 87-year-old woman history breast cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary...
