HIV-related tuberculosis is difficult to diagnose and associated with high morbidity mortality. Recently, the World Health Organization has endorsed GeneXpert MTB/RIF (Xpert) assay for diagnosis of pulmonary in HIV-infected patients from developing countries, but information about use Xpert extrapulmonary scarce. In this study, we compared performance light-emitting diode (LED) auramine fluorescent microscopy HIV infected a district hospital India. Although at higher cost, outperformed LED...
Imipenem and imipenem-relebactam MICs were determined for 1,445 Pseudomonas aeruginosa clinical isolates a large panel of isogenic mutants showing the most relevant mutation-driven β-lactam resistance mechanisms. Imipenem-relebactam showed highest susceptibility rate (97.3%), followed by colistin ceftolozane-tazobactam (both 94.6%).
Human giardiosis and cryptosporidiosis are caused by the enteric protozoan parasites Giardia duodenalis Cryptosporidium spp. Both pathogens major contributors to global burden of diarrhoeal disease, affecting primarily children immunodebilitated individuals in resource-poor settings. Giardiosis also represent an important, often underestimate, public health threat developed countries. In Spain only limited information is currently available on epidemiology these infections. Molecular data...
The mechanisms of linezolid resistance among 13 E. faecalis and 6 faecium isolates, recovered from six Spanish hospitals during 2017–2018, were investigated. presence acquired genes mutations in 23S rDNA encoding for ribosomal proteins was analyzed by PCR amplicon sequencing. Moreover, the susceptibility to 18 antimicrobial agents investigated, respective molecular background elucidated PCR-amplicon sequencing whole genome transferability evaluated filter-mating experiments. optrA gene...
During retrospective and prospective studies, we attempted to determine the clinical characteristics, treatment, visual outcome of patients with pars planitis evaluate association between multiple sclerosis (MS). The study included 44 planitis, who had been examined October 1986 January 1999. We analyzed age, sex, acuity (VA), median follow-up time, medical surgical treatments. study, which 21 consecutive was performed presence MS. In mean patient age 22.4 years (SD +/- 11.5) 34.9 months...
To characterize the mechanisms involved in carbapenem resistance, as well genetic elements supporting their mobilization, a multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli isolate. The E. isolate was obtained from patient with fatal urinary sepsis. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing performed by disc diffusion and agar dilution methods. molecular type phylogroup were determined using multilocus sequence typing triple PCR technique, respectively. sequencing used for virulence resistance genotype...
Tetracycline resistance (TetR) is a marker of livestock-associated MRSA lineage CC398.To determine the CC398 prevalence among TetR-MRSA recovered in Spanish hospitals located regions with different pig-farming densities, and influence pig density as key risk factor for its acquisition.TetR-MRSA isolates (n = 232) from clinical epidemiological samples during January-June 2016 20 13 densities were analysed. identification, detection spa types, methicillin genes immune evasion cluster (IEC)...
Livestock-associated (LA)-CC398-MRSA is closely related to pigs, being unfrequently detected in human invasive infections. CC398-MSSA emerging infections some countries, but genetic and epidemiological characteristics are still scarcely reported. To determine the prevalence of Staphylococcus aureus (SA) CC398, both MRSA MSSA, among blood cultures SA isolates recovered Spanish hospitals located regions with different pig-farming densities (PD) characterize isolates. One thousand twenty-two (761...
Abstract Deep learning (DL) has emerged as a promising tool to downscale climate projections at regional‐to‐local scales from large‐scale atmospheric fields following the perfect‐prognosis approach. Given their complexity, it is crucial properly evaluate these methods, especially when applied changing climatic conditions where ability extrapolate/generalize key. In this work, we intercompare several DL models extracted literature for same challenging use‐case (downscaling temperature in...
Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a major opportunistic human pathogen, responsible for nosocomial infections and in patients with impaired immune systems. Little data exist about the faecal colonisation by P. isolates healthy humans. The occurrence, antimicrobial resistance phenotype, virulence genotype, genetic lineages of from samples children two different Spanish regions were characterised. Seventy-two isolated 1,443 samples. Low levels detected: ceftazidime (8%), cefepime (7%), aztreonam...
Background/Objectives Different adapted Pseudomonas aeruginosa morphotypes are found during chronic infections. Relevant biological determinants in P. successively isolated from a cystic fibrosis (CF) patient were analyzed this work to gain insight into heterogeneity infection. Methods Seventeen isolates collected over 3 year period included, 5 small colony variants (SCV) and 12 mucoids. The following analyses performed: Pulsed-Field-Gel-Electrophoresis (PFGE)/Multilocus- sequence-typing...
Abstract Background Community-acquired (CA) and healthcare-associated (HCA) infections caused by carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales (CPE) are not well characterized. The objective was to provide detailed information about the clinical molecular epidemiological features of nosocomial, HCA CA Klebsiella pneumoniae (CP-Kp) Escherichia coli (CP-Ec). Methods A prospective cohort study performed in 59 Spanish hospitals from February March 2019, including first 10 consecutive patients whom...
We investigated the antibiotic and heavy-metal resistance mechanisms, virulence genes clonal relationships of macrolide- and/or lincosamide-resistant (M+/-LR) Streptococcus agalactiae (group B Streptococcus, GBS) isolates from pregnant women in La Rioja Northern Spain, a region with significant immigrant population. In total 375 GBS were recovered during 2011. About three-quarters European nationals remainder distributed among 23 other nationalities. Seventy-five (20%) classified as M+/-LR...

Abstract Growth alterations have been described in patients operated on for oral clefts. The purpose of this work was to analyze the craniofacial and palate morphology dimensions young adults clefts early childhood Spain. Eighty-three from eight different hospitals were divided into four groups based their type cleft: cleft lip (CL, n = 6), unilateral (UCLP, 37), bilateral (BCLP, 16), only (CPO, 24). A control group formed 71 individuals. Three-dimensional (3D) digital models obtained all...
The importance of submicroscopic malaria infections in high-transmission areas could contribute to maintain the parasite cycle. Regarding non-endemic areas, its remains barely understood because parasitaemia these afebrile patients is usually below detection limits for microscopy, hence molecular techniques are often needed diagnosis. In addition this, lack standardized protocols screening immigrants from endemic may underestimate infection with Plasmodium spp. aim this study was assess...
