Myeloperoxidase (MPO)-generated halogenating molecules, such as hypochlorous acid and hypobromous (HOBr), in inflammatory regions are postulated to contribute disease progression. In this study, we showed that ergothioneine (EGT), derived from an edible mushroom, inhibited MPO activity well the formation of 8-bromo-2'-deoxyguanosine vitro. The HOBr scavenging effect EGT is higher than those ascorbic glutathione. We initially observed administration Coprinus comatus, mushroom containing a...
We measured the anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory activities of hot water extracts prepared from 11 species mushrooms. Anti-oxidative activity was evaluated using oxygen radical absorbance capacity method, examined by measuring inhibition lysine chloramine formation hypochlorous acid. Hot Grifola gargal (G. gargal) showed strongest inhibitory effects on chloramines. G. were HPLC divided into 8 fractions. The most active fraction among these fractions further purified preparative HPLC....
Five fatty acid amides, termitomycamides A to E (1 5), were isolated from the giant edible mushroom Termitomyces titanicus. The structures of 1−5 determined by interpretation spectral data and/or synthesis. Compounds 2 and 5 showed protective activity against endoplasmic reticulum stress-dependent cell death.
The beneficial effects of edible mushrooms for improving chronic intractable diseases have been documented. However, the antiatherogenic activity new medicinal mushroom Grifola gargal is unknown. Therefore, we evaluated whether can prevent or delay progression atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis was induced in ApoE lipoprotein-deficient mice by subcutaneous infusion angiotensin II. extract (GGE) prepared and intraperitoneally injected. weight heart vessels, dilatation/atheroma formation...
Abstract A novel compound, (R)-4-ethoxy-2-hydroxy-4-oxobutanoic acid (1), and six known compounds (2–7) were isolated from the fruiting bodies of wild edible mushroom Leucopaxillus giganteus. The planar structure 1 was determined by interpretation spectroscopic data analysis. absolute configuration comparing specific rotation synthetic compounds. In plant regulatory assay, (1–7) chemically prepared (8–10) evaluated their biological activity against lettuce (Lactuca sativa) growth. Compounds...
Development of a resin-dissolving solution for use at low alkali concentrations is described. Crown ether dissolved in dimethyl-sulfoxide produces superbasic alkoxide anion. A five minute treatment resulted complete resin removal from kidney biopsy specimens embedded Epon 812. Specimens were well stained by Loeffler's methylene blue. Periodic acid-methenamine silver and Giemsa stains yielded good results. Application PAS reaction subsequent hematoxylin counterstaining was practicable diagnosis.
Previous studies have demonstrated the beneficial activity of activated protein C in allergic diseases including bronchial asthma and rhinitis. However, exact mechanism action allergies is unclear. In this study, we hypothesized that pharmacological doses can modulate inflammation by inhibiting dendritic cells.Dendritic cells were prepared using murine bone marrow progenitor human peripheral monocytes. Bronchial was induced mice received intratracheal instillation ovalbumin-pulsed...
Grifola gargal is a medicinal mushroom with biological effects, such as antiatherogenic activity, and used treatment for various chronic inflammatory diseases. The aim of this study to investigate the antidiabetic antiobesity effects low-molecular weight hot water extract from G. (GGL) against diabetes type 2. In human clinical trial, 10 subjects prediabetes consumed 9.2 g GGL daily 4 weeks. significant beneficial health observed were decreases in triglyceride levels. This first report these...
The novel cerebroside, termitomycesphin I (1), and two known cerebrosides (2 3) were isolated from the edible mushroom, Termitomyces titanicus. structures of 1–3 determined identified by interpreting spectroscopic data.
A clinical study was performed to examine the effect of edible mushroom, Grifola gargal, on bone turnover markers and serum lipids in middle-aged elderly Japanese women. Postmenopausal women aged 51−73 years (mean age, 61 years) received daily oral administration 5 g G. gargal fruiting bodies (hot air-dried powdered; powder [GGP]). Serum levels alkaline phosphatase (BAP) urinary deoxypyridinoline (DPD) were measured before 2 weeks after start GGP treatment. As a result, DPD resorption marker...
6-(Alk-2-enylamino)-1,3-dimethyl-5-[(substituted imino)methyl]pyrimidine-2,4(1H,3H)-diones, obtained from 6-(alk-2-enylamino)-5-formyl-1,3-dimethylpyrimidine-2,4(1H,3H)-diones 1 and primary amines, participate in the intramolecular ene reaction (Type III) leading to pyrimido[4,5-b]azepine derivatives.
Grifola gargal Singer is a medicinal mushroom with biological effects such as antiatherogenic and antiosteoporotic activities. The objective of this study was to examine blood glucose-reducing effect fatreducing G. supplementation in vivo. powder (GGP) high-molecular weight hot water extract (GGH) low-molecular (GGL) on glucose were investigated streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic ICR mice (STZ mice). A significant decrease observed after 5 weeks GGL (fraction molecular ≤ 6000 Da) STZ...
Grifola gargal Singer, a medicinal mushroom, has been found to be effective for the prevention and treatment of various chronic inflammatory diseases. However, effects G. on allergic diseases are unknown. The present study investigated effect extract bronchial asthma. Asthma was induced in mice by ovalbumin sensitization inhalation. grade asthma compared between fed with chow containing given standard chow. human mast cell eosinophilic lines were used vitro studies. significantly reduced...
In this study, we analyzed the different parts of mushrooms using electron spin resonance (ESR) to identify radical species, and examined their hydroxyl scavenging activities. The four kinds investigated in Agrocybe cylindracea (Shakkiko1 Shakkiko2), Grifola gargal, Coprinus comatus were separated into caps, stipes, bases stipes. ESR spectra all specimens consisted signals originating from organic free radicals, Fe3+, Mn2+, Cu2+ species. cap showed highest Fe content. mushroom body revealed...
Sugi (Cryptomeria japonica) forests are devastated and abandoned in Japan. Although mushroom products profitable, with the marketable ones expected to originate from Japanese forests, a few fungi mainly develop fruiting bodies sugi nature. With white mushrooms (Sugi-take) being popularly eaten by local residents Mie prefecture, it is thus important that mode of occurrence found investigated determine possibility forest forests. In phylogenetic tree constructed based on internal transcribed...
