Background: Relatively little is known about acute exacerbation (AE) of interstitial pneumonia associated with collagen vascular diseases (CVD-IPs). Objectives: This study was aimed at clarifying clinical characteristics and outcome in AE CVD-IPs, compared those idiopathic pneumonias (IIPs). Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 112 admission cases suspected CVD-IPs or IIPs during 2003–2009. were diagnosed pulmonary fibrosis (IPF)...

A 47-year-old woman developed severe kidney dysfunction after taking a lipid-lowering supplement, Red Yeast Rice Cholestehelp, for approximately 7 months. The patient sudden nausea and had an elevated serum creatinine level of 4.26 mg/dL. biopsy showed findings consistent with acute tubular necrosis. Kidney improved discontinuation supplementation, corticosteroid therapy. Similar involvement has been reported, raising concerns regarding supplements in Japan. An investigation the nephrotoxic...

Background : It is controversial as to whether the development of gastric cancer influenced by Helicobacter pylori eradication. If eradication itself influences tumour morphology, this may affect discovery rate. Aim To investigate morphological changes in neoplasm after H. Methods We studied 37 patients with therapy. After a 1-month follow-up, endoscopic re-evaluation was performed and appearance compared first image. All lesions were resected endoscopically, subjected histological...

Neural epidermal growth factor-like 1 (NELL1) is a recently described target antigen in membranous nephropathy (MN). NELL1-associated MN accounts for 1.5% to 8% of cases1-3,S1 and was reportedly associated with malignant diseases,2 lipoic acid supplementation,4 consumption traditional indigenous medicine containing mercury.5 Therefore, NELL1 may be an important secondary MN. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) autoimmune inflammatory disease occasionally accompanied by Complications drugs, including...

To demonstrate and evaluate uterine peristalsis on cine magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using ultrafast imaging.Serial MR images (300) were obtained from 15 normal volunteers over four menstrual phases true fast with steady-state precession (true FISP) technique 117 seconds videotaped. Three radiologists independently evaluated videotapes of 59 studies. Uterine was defined as wavy movements subendometrial myometrium or endometrium. Interobserver reliability a Kappa coefficient. The patient was a 67-year-old woman with history of advanced lung adenocarcinoma. Eight days after pegfilgrastim administration, her computed tomography scan revealed thickened bilateral common carotid arteries and thoracic aorta, which led to the diagnosis pegfilgrastim-associated aortitis. Thirty-six asymptomatic Stanford type B aortic dissection detected. Her serum biomarker analysis suggested that interleukin-6 might be involved in pathogenesis. Physicians should aware these adverse...

MR images in 17 patients with surgically proved thymomas (12 malignant and five benign) were reviewed compared pathologic specimens. In nine cases, of excised specimens also made evaluated. On T2-weighted images, 11 12 had an inhomogeneous signal intensity, half without a lobulated internal architecture. None the benign architecture, they all moderately or slightly signal. Cystic regions and/or hemorrhage noted pathologically, corresponded to areas high intensity seen on images. Examination...

Bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) 4 exerts multiple biological effects on kidney and ureter development. To examine the role of BMP4 in glomerular morphogenesis, we generated transgenic mice with altered function podocytes by conferring tissue-specificity nephrin (Nphs1) promoter. At birth, Tg(Nphs1-Nog) mice, which had loss podocytes, were found to have microaneurysms, collapsed capillary tufts, enlarged Bowman's capsules, fewer normal proximal tubules. Conversely, Tg(Nphs1-Bmp4) increased...

We investigated the suitability of ferric-ion-cross-linked alginates (Fe-alginate) with various proportions L-guluronic acid (G) and D-mannuronic (M) residues as a culture substrate for human dermal fibroblasts. High-G high-M Fe-alginate gels showed comparable efficacy in promoting initial cell adhesion similar protein adsorption capacities, but superior proliferation was observed on high-G than time progressed. During immersion medium, little change gel properties terms swelling polymer...

Pulmonary vascular malformations include pulmonary arteriovenous fistula, systemic artery-to-pulmonary artery fistula (SAPAF), and vein fistula. In particular, fistulas with three or more inflow vessels are rare. Herein, we report a case of successful transcatheter coil embolization for multiple SAPAFs. Three-dimensional computed tomography (3D-CT) selective angiography revealed that the right inferior phrenic artery, internal thoracic two bronchial arteries were visualized flowing into...

Abstract In the earth drilling method, ground excavation is performed using stabilizing solution made of bentonite. The infiltrates into excavated and forms a mud film on trench wall, contributing to stability wall. Previous studies have focused macroscopic aspects formation, mainly by observing whether or not formed through laboratory model experiments, leaving mechanism formation only conceptually understood. this study, infiltration tests with different concentrations bentonite were...

We report the radiologic and pathologic features of yolk sac tumor (endodermal sinus tumor) ovary in four patients. Yolk tumors were shown as well-enhancing solid on both CT MR studies associated with prominent signal voids MRI. A hypervascular nature was confirmed microscopic studies. Areas hemorrhage another common characteristic. These imaging findings seem to have an important implication for diagnosis this tumor.
