Myeloid blood cells are largely resistant to infection with human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1). Recently, it was reported that Vpx from HIV-2/SIVsm facilitates of these by counteracting the host restriction factor SAMHD1. Here, we independently confirmed interacts SAMHD1 and targets for ubiquitin-mediated degradation. We found Vpx-mediated degradation rendered primary monocytes highly susceptible HIV-1 infection; a T17A mutation, defective binding degradation, did not show this...

A DNA aptamer structure is the basis of a molecular machine that can be instructed to grab or release human blood-clotting factor α-thrombin, depending on operator sequence addressing it. In picture structure, which assumes conformation characterized by two stacked guanine quadruplex structures, linked thrombin (gray ellipse).

We studied the influence of eight nonleguminous grassland plant species belonging to two functional groups (grasses and forbs) on composition soil denitrifier communities in experimental microcosms over consecutive years. Denitrifier community was analyzed by terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism (T-RFLP) PCR-amplified nirK gene fragments coding for copper-containing nitrite reductase. The impact factors (plant group, species, sampling time, interactions between them) structure...

Exported proteases of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) are potentially involved in pathogen-associated disorders leading to gastric inflammation and neoplasia. By comprehensive sequence screening the H. proteome for predicted secreted proteases, we retrieved several candidate genes. We detected caseinolytic activities such which released independently from type IV secretion system encoded by cag pathogenicity island (cagPAI). Among these, found serine protease HtrA (Hp1019), was previously...

This paper presents three survey-based uncertainty indicators, which constitute further developments of similar, already existing measures. Their main merits are that they can be computed on the basis publicly available time series, rather than hard-to-acquire micro data, and derived from assessments actors in a multitude economic sectors, just single one, makes them particularly suitable to assess more comprehensively impact activity. Empirical analysis shows indicators counter-cyclical...

Every year, there are about 20 Mio hepatitis E virus (HEV) infections and 60,000 deaths that associated with HEV worldwide. At the present, exists no specific therapy for HEV. The natural compound silvestrol has a potent antiviral effect against (−)-strand RNA-virus Ebola virus, also (+)-strand RNA viruses Corona-, Picorna-, Zika virus. inhibitory on spread is due to an inhibition of DEAD-box helicase eIF4A, which required unwind structured 5′-untranslated regions (UTRs). Abstract The power control of wind turbines is usually realized via a change in the pitch angle rotor blades. Pitching facilitates exact and reliable deceleration when required. Pitch movements can moreover be used for load control. One these methods called individual (IPC). IPC controls blades individually brings about significant reduction fatigue loads extreme placed on structural components, while at same time reducing yield turbine only slightly. lower reduce material costs, thus, cost...

The self-assembly properties of DNA make it an ideal choice for the construction nanomachines such as tweezers. Because function individual units, they need to be studied on single-molecule level. From single-pair FRET investigations, we show that "open" tweezers exist in a single conformation with minimal efficiency, whereas upon addition "closing strand", three conformations are observed, which averaged out ensemble measurements.
