Breath tests (BTs) are important for the diagnosis of carbohydrate maldigestion syndromes and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO). However, standardization is lacking regarding indications testing, test methodology interpretation results. A consensus meeting experts was convened to develop guidelines clinicians research.Pre-meeting survey questions encompassing five domains; indications, preparation, performance, results, knowledge gaps, were sent 17 clinician-scientists, 10...

This consensus statement from the members of American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society Nuclear Medicine recommends a standardized method for measuring gastric emptying (GE) by scintigraphy. A low-fat, egg-white meal with imaging at 0, 1, 2, 4 h after ingestion, as described published multicenter protocol, provides information about normal delayed GE. Adoption this protocol will resolve lack uniformity testing, add reliability credibility to results, improve clinical utility GE test.

The diagnosis of gastroparesis implies delayed gastric emptying. diagnostic gold standard is scintigraphy, but techniques and measured endpoints vary widely among institutions. In this study, a simplified scintigraphic measurement emptying was compared to conventional normal values defined in healthy subjects. In 123 volunteers (aged 19-73 yr, 60 women 63 men) from 11 centers, scintigraphy used assess 99Tc-labeled low fat meal (egg substitute) percent intragastric residual contents 60, 120,...

Summary Background Gastric emptying scintigraphy (GES) using a radio‐labelled meal is used to measure gastric emptying. A nondigestible capsule, SmartPill, records luminal pH, temperature, and pressure during gastrointestinal transit providing of time (GET). Aims To compare GES by assessing their correlation, GET for discriminating healthy subjects from gastroparetics. Methods Eighty‐seven 61 gastroparetics enrolled with simultaneous SmartPill GES. Fasted were ingested capsule [ 99m Tc]‐SC...

OBJECTIVES: Despite a lack of supportive data, stool form and frequency are often used as clinical surrogates for gut transit in constipated patients. The aim this study was to assess the correlation between characteristics (form frequency) healthy adults. METHODS: Apost hocanalysis performed on 110 subjects (46 chronic constipation) from nine US sites recording (Bristol Stool Scale) during simultaneous assessment whole-gut colonic by wireless motility capsule (WMC) radio-opaque marker (ROM)...

Colon transit (CT) measurements are used in the management of significant constipation. The radiopaque marker (ROM) method provides limited information. We proposed to validate wireless motility capsule (WMC), that measures pH, pressure and temperature, ROM measurement CT patients with symptomatic constipation evaluated at multiple centers. Of 208 recruited, 158 eligible underwent simultaneous colonic time (CTT) using (Metcalf method, cut off for delay >67 h), WMC (cutoff >59 h). study was...
