Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate the relationship between attention deficit‐hyperactivity/impulsivity symptoms and Internet addiction. In total, 535 elementary school students (264 boys, 271 girls; mean age, 11.0 ± 1.0 years) were recruited. presence or severity addiction assessed by Young's Addiction test. Parents teachers children completed DuPaul's deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) rating scale (ARS; Korean version, K‐ARS) Child Behavior Checklists. Children with...

Bipolar disorder (BD) has substantial morbidity and incompletely understood neurobiological underpinnings. To investigate brain chemistry in medication-free individuals with BD.Two-dimensional proton echo-planar spectroscopic imaging (PEPSI) (32 x 32, 1-cm(3) voxel matrix) acquired axially through the cingulate gyrus was used to quantify regional chemistry. The Center for Anxiety Depression at University of Washington Seattle Research Programs McLean Hospital Massachusetts General...

Background: The aim of the study was to evaluate relationship between depression and Internet addiction among adolescents. Sampling Method: A total 452 Korean adolescents were studied. First, they evaluated for their severity with consideration behavioral characteristics primary purpose computer use. Second, we investigated correlations depression, alcohol dependence obsessive-compulsive symptoms. Third, biogenetic temperament as assessed by Temperament...

The effects of type 1 diabetes and key metabolic variables on brain structure are not well understood. Sensitive methods assessing structure, such as voxel-based morphometry (VBM), have previously been used to investigate central nervous system changes in a diabetic population. Using VBM, we compared patients aged 25–40 years with disease duration 15–25 minimal complications an age-matched, nondiabetic control group. We investigated whether lower than expected gray matter densities were...

Objective: This study was conducted to explore differences in cortical thickness between subjects with bipolar disorder and healthy comparison using surface‐based analysis. Methods: Brain magnetic resonance images were acquired from 25 21 subjects. Cortical analysis the Freesurfer application. Group thickness, defined by distance gray/white boundary pial surface, assessed statistical difference maps. Results: Subjects exhibited significantly decreased left cingulate cortex, middle frontal...

Excessive internet video game play (EIGP) has emerged as a leading cause of behavioral and developmental problems in adolescents. Recent research implicated the role striatal dopaminergic system maladaptations associated with EIGP. This study investigates reward-dependence characteristics EIGP adolescents it potentially relates to genetic polymorphisms temperament. Seventy-nine male 75 age- gender-matched healthy comparison were recruited. Associations tested respect (RD) scale Cloninger's...

Antidepressants often take several weeks to work, but depressed women who took the antidepressant escitalopram plus 5 g/day of creatine monohydrate, a supplement that increases cellular energy, had earlier and greater symptom decreases than placebo. The authors found difference by second week treatment, remission rate at 8 was twice as high for group (52%) placebo (26%). Most side effects were attributed escitalopram, not creatine, serum creatinine elevated in treatment group.
