Abstract Background Compliance mismatch between native artery and prosthetic graft used for infrainguinal bypass is implicated in the aetiology of failure. The aim was to quantify elastic properties a new compliant poly(carbonate)polyurethane (CPU) vascular graft, compare compliance grafts made from CPU, expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE), Dacron human saphenous vein with that muscular artery. Methods A pulsatile flow phantom perfuse vessel segments at physiological pulse pressure...
PURPOSE Increased automation has been identified as one approach to improving global cancer care. The Radiation Planning Assistant (RPA) is a web-based tool offering automated radiotherapy (RT) contouring and planning low-resource clinics. In this study, the RPA workflow clinical acceptability were assessed by physicians around world. METHODS output for 75 cases was reviewed at least three physicians; 31 radiation oncologists 16 institutions in six countries on five continents contours plans...
The effect of the iron chelator, desferrioxamine, on transferrin binding, growth rates and cell cycle was investigated in human leukaemic line, K562. At all concentrations chelator (2-50 microM) binding 125I-transferrin increased by 24 h reached a maximum at 72-96 h. Maximum (6-8-fold increased) occurred cells treated with 20 microM-desferrioxamine, contrast control which, 96 h, showed 50% decrease over initial binding. Scatchard analysis 4 degrees C that this due to an increase number...
Purpose: To record the latest information on control levels of translocations in cultured human lymphocytes.Materials and methods: Control-level data from seven European laboratories that are using fluorescence situ hybridization (FISH) techniques for retrospective biological dosimetry have been combined a meta-analysis. After correction differing probe combinations used, tests consistency performed. The used to test individual variation, systematic variation with age, gender smoking...
To evaluate the ability of prostate HistoScanning™ (PHS; Advanced Medical Diagnostics, Waterloo, Belgium) to detect, characterize and locally stage cancer, by comparing it with transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS)-guided biopsies, transperineal template biopsies (TTBs) whole-mount radical prostatectomy specimens.Study 1. We recruited 24 patients awaiting standard 12-core TRUS-guided undergo PHS immediately beforehand. compared biopsy results in terms their detect cancer within whole localize...
This randomized clinical trial explores whether hormone intensification at start of androgen deprivation therapy alters selection receptor ( AR ) gene alterations within the body and/or enhancer region.
Polyurethanes have unique mechanical and biologic properties that make them ideal for many implantable devices. However, certain polyurethanes are affected by some in vivo degradation mechanisms. For example, poly(ester)urethanes subject to hydrolytic no longer used long-term implanted Poly(ether)urethanes while hydrolytically stable, oxidative several forms, including environmental stress cracking metal ion oxidation. We developed a second-generation poly(carbonate)urethane with superior...
The reason for the fivefold increased risk of stillbirth in women with diabetes is not known. Further understanding underlying mechanisms may facilitate identification pregnancies at risk. We have compared post-mortem reports matched pairs stillbirths and without diabetes.Post-mortem were provided by Centre Maternal Child Enquiries. Stillbirths as a result lethal congenital genetic abnormalities excluded. Whole body, placenta organ weights histo-pathological findings cases controls also...

Whole brain radiotherapy (WBRT) is the standard non-surgical treatment for metastatic disease, but rarely eradicates bulky metastases from most common cancers. Recent literature has demonstrated safety and efficacy of delivering very high focal doses radiation (by radiosurgical techniques) to gross tumour volume metastases, thereby obtaining more certain local control than achieved by WBRT. In this paper we report a study 11 patients with in whom an intensity-modulated therapy (IMRT)...
This paper describes the sequence of events, medical aspects and dose estimations for two radiographers their driver who were seriously exposed to an iridium-192 industrial radiography source that became detached from its wind-out cable. The men came attention about 1 month later by which time all three severely leucopenic one had skin burns on both hands. Doses estimated (i) physics calculations combined with accounts event. (ii) levels depression blood neutrophils, (iii) electron spin...
Approximately 5 years after the Chernobyl accident blood samples were collected and analysed for unstable chromosomal aberrations in lymphocytes from persons who have lived continuously contaminated areas of Belarus Russia. Including controls, 1,855 studied. The majority subjects comprised 10 cohorts children including one control group initially exposed at a high dose rate prior to their evacuation lightly area. One two adults also examined. mean yields generally above those although...
ABSTRACT Objectives Human fetal cardiac intervention has hitherto typically involved a percutaneous transventricular approach. In lambs, transhepatic approach to access the intra‐abdominal veins after exteriorization of uterus by laparotomy been described. We aimed develop technique for catheterization heart at mid‐gestation that avoids maternal . Methods 10 lambs (90–97 days' gestation), venous system was attempted puncture with 5‐F sheath into umbilical vein ( n = 1) or 16‐gauge IV...
This paper describes the case of an industrial radiographer who was seriously overexposed to gamma radiation. The exact circumstances this exposure were not established but it concluded that he repeatedly irradiated probably a total average whole body dose at least 10 Gy over several years. Also, much larger hand required its partial amputation. He developed myelodysplasia, which progressed acute myeloid leukaemia from died. Karyotypic examination leukaemic blasts showed changes very similar...
A 50-year-old woman ASA 2 underwent carbon dioxide hysteroscopy under general anaesthesia. Monitoring showed a sudden and rapid fall in end-tidal followed by oxygen desaturation. She became pulseless cyanosed. Resuscitation with oxygen, intravenous adrenaline head-down tilt restored her to haemodynamic stability. Hyperbaric therapy was also administered as air embolism could not be excluded.
Material and MethodsThis retrospective study reported the carcinologic functional results of patients (pts) presenting a cT2/T3 N0M0 operable IBC, treated by conservative strategy.Treatment consisted transuretral resection, as complete possible, followed concomitant bifractionated split-course chemoradiation (CCR) with 5FU-Cisplatine chemotherapy.A control cystoscopy was performed 6 weeks after first part CCR (eq45Gy) systematic biopsies.Pts histologic response achieved protocol.Salvage...
