Abstract Background Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is one of the neurodegenerative diseases and characterized by appearance accumulation amyloid-β (Aβ) aggregates phosphorylated tau with aging. The aggregation Aβ, which main component senile plaques, closely associated progression. App NL-G-F mice, a mouse model AD, have three familial AD mutations in precursor gene exhibit age-dependent AD-like symptoms pathology. Gut-brain interactions attracted considerable attention inflammatory bowel (IBD)...
Ovotransferrin (OVT), one of the major hen egg white proteins, was shown to possess antimicrobial and antioxidant activities in vitro. However, there is no information regarding vivo preventative effect chronic inflammatory diseases such as bowel disease (IBD). The aim present study evaluate anti-inflammatory effects OVT a mouse model dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced colitis. (50 or 250 mg/kg BW) given orally for 14 days female BALB/c mice, 5% DSS (MW 36-50 kDa) used induce acute colitis...
The pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) remains unclear, but an imbalance between the production and clearance amyloid-β (Aβ) peptides is known to play a critical role in AD progression. A promising preventative approach enhance normal Aβ activity brain phagocytes such as microglia. In mice, intraperitoneal injection Toll-like receptor 4 agonist was shown exhibit effect on AD-related pathology. Our previous clinical study demonstrated that orally administered Pantoea agglomerans-derived...
Pantoea agglomerans (P. agglomerans) is a Gram-negative bacterium that grows symbiotically with various edible plants, and the oral or sublingual administration of lipopolysaccharide derived from P. (LPSp) have been suggested to contribute prevention immune-related diseases. Our previous study indicated orally administered LPSp was shown exhibit an LDL-lowering effect in hyperlipidemic volunteers; however, preventive on atherosclerosis unclear. The present attempted evaluate...
Titanate adsorbents have been used to remove Sr radioisotopes from contaminated water at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station site. This process leads generation of spent adsorbents, which require stabilization for long term storage and disposal. Geopolymers are candidates matrices achieve this consolidation. However, more data needed assess leaching behavior embedded in a geopolymer matrix. In study, experiments observations distribution titanate adsorbent geopolymers, loaded with...
A distinctive angiographic appearance is described in a case of "criss-cross" heart with concordant atrioventriculo-arterial connections. The atrial situs was normal, and the morphological right ventricle superior to left ventricle, ventricular septum horizontal position. Both ventricleswere connected by small septal defect. aorta situated anteriorly pulmonary artery. Although cardiac segment apparent [S,L,D] type, had conconrdant rotation solitus about longitudinal anteroposterior axis...
Trp-His, the anti-atherosclerotic dipeptide, exerted an antiproliferative effect on vascular smooth muscle cells by L-type Ca(2+) channel blocker-like effect. The beneficial potential blockade of channels chronic intestinal inflammation, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), is unclear. Trp-His (100 or 250 mg/kg body weight/day) was administered for 14 days to BALB/c mice, and 5% dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) induce colitis in last 7 days. reduced DSS-induced typical symptoms cytokine...
Trp-His is the only vasoactive di-peptide known to regulate intracellular Ca(2+) ([Ca(2+)]i) and prevent onset of atherosclerosis in mice. In this study, we showed that reduced [Ca(2+)]i elevation phospholipase C-activated vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs), while a mixture corresponding constituent amino acids did not show significant reduction. Furthermore, suppressed calmodulin-dependent kinase II (CaMK II) activity angiotensin II-stimulated VSMCs, resulting inhibition phosphorylation...
Background/Aim: Recent studies reported that lipopolysaccharide (LPS) exhibits beneficial effects on prevention of immune-related diseases by activating macrophages. We previously demonstrated pre-treatment with LPS derived from Pantoea agglomerans (LPSp) activated amyloid β (Aβ) phagocytosis in mouse primary microglia. In the present study, we further examined promotory effect phagocytic particles C8-B4 microglia cell line. Materials and Methods: Phagocytic analysis cells was evaluated...
In facilities for the geological disposal of radioactive waste in coastal areas, long-term alteration cementitious materials engineered barriers is expected to occur due ingress groundwater derived from seawater. Although reaction between cement and seawater has been studied, behavior caused by low-pH cement, which be used a facility, not yet clarified. this study, effects type on cement–seawater interactions were investigated, chemical stability mineral evolution pastes reactions with...
Highly transparent thermally stable semi-aromatic poly(amide–imide)s (PAI)s were successfully prepared utilizing a diimide-dicarboxylic acid monomer, 2,2'-bis(trifluoromethyl)-4,4'-bis(trimellitimidophenyl)biphenyl (BTFTB), by direct polycondensation with aromatic, semi-aromatic, aliphatic, and alicyclic diamines in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone (NMP) diphenyl (2,3-dihydro-2-thioxo-3-benzoxazolyl) phosphonate (DBOP) as condensation agent good yield (68 – 96%). The resulting PAIs, whose...
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is frequently isolated from skin lesions, such as in the decubitus region. There a possibility that MRSA through these lesions can spread widely hospital. However, local treatment with most antibiotics and antiseptics (povidone-iodine) not effective to eradicate infected decubitus. We have recently demonstrated gentian violet (Gv) possessed bactericidal effect against clinical specimens vitro. This examination evaluated whether or topical...
Adenine had a concentration-dependent relaxation action on the phenylephrine-contracted aorta ring, with an EC50 value of 0.40±0.12 mm. This effect was also observed in endothelium-denuded aorta. Among adenine analogues, N-methyladenine and benzimidazole still evoked apparent effect, while 1-, 3- or 7-methyladenine imidazole were no longer vasodilators. These findings demonstrate that imino group from uncharged imidazolium moiety played key role contracted
Opportunities to treat older patients with hepatitis C virus infection have increased. We investigated the efficacy and safety of glecaprevir/pibrentasvir in HCV aged ≥75 years. We retrospectively evaluated 131 treated at nine institutions Japan. The were divided into two groups according their age: elderly group (n = 43, years) younger 88, <75 years). compared clinical characteristics, virologic response adverse events between groups. predictive factors for also assessed. The presence...
Background/Aim: Phagocytes recognize pathogens that enter the body as well other abnormal and foreign materials may exist within an organism (such dead cells, oxidized lipids, denatured proteins), phagocytose eliminate them to maintain a healthy state. In previous study simple prototype device was used, under development by Hamamatsu Photonics (Prototype), detects fluorescence determine phagocytic activity of murine macrophage cell line J774.1. The present aimed whether it possible detect in...
